He was adamant that he could not guarantee that his simple repair would work, but he wanted to try it before embarking on the expensive task of digging down and resealing the basement. Since the leak had just appeared recently (and after some gardening work in that area), we agreed to risk the $1000 to try to caulk up the holes and regraded the soil near the leak.
