"Chris, from Aqua Systems thoroughly explained how their water softener worked and would enhance the quality of our water (very hard water in a limestone quarry area). We purchased their SmartChoice Gen II model. Installation was delayed three days due to a large project, but they notified us well in advance. Jarred and Robby completed a clean, quick, and efficient installation. They thoroughly explained the system operation and left their cell numbers in case we needed help. The control module also displays an Aqua Systems contact number for help. Within 24 hours, both the hot and cold water felt different and the water taste was improved. Our system has been in 7 days, the water feels silky. My wife's makeup washes off completely with soap and water. Our towels feel softer. Our dishes, especially the glasses, look cleaner. Aqua Systems can analyze you water and recommend a product that will help you - we're very happy with their product and installation."

"We thought we had a clogged drain after water backed up in our kitchen sink and flooded the cupboard below. Josh of Ben Franklin Plumbing diagnosed the problem as a routing issue between the dishwasher drain hose and the garbage disposal, and told me how to fix it. He only charged for the service call. He could have gone ahead and cleared the drain between the house and street, and charged us for it, but instead he took the time to diagnose the real problem. The part was less than $2 and took 5 minutes to repair myself. We're very satisfied and will definitely use Ben Franklin Plumbing again."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Generally, it is safe to bathe in yellow water, as the color is often caused by iron, tannins, or rust, which won't harm your skin. Soap will still clean you effectively, though the water might leave stains. However, if the water has an unusual smell or you suspect contamination, avoid bathing and contact a plumber for an inspection. A professional can also help if you find bathing in yellow water problematic and want to determine how to get your water clear again.

To get utilities set up on a property, you first have to contact the local department of planning to determine whether your property is able to connect to public utilities. From there, you can work with a structural engineer and/or a building contractor to design the layout of utility lines on the property. The pros will need this information as they begin securing building permits before they can start adding lines.

If your property isn’t able to connect to public utilities, you’ll need to consider working with pros to develop a comfortable off-grid home that will meet your needs.

No, a water descaler won't descale pipes. The charged water running through the pipes may very slowly dissolve mineral deposits and hold them inside the water, but it's a very gradual process. If your pipes do need descaling, it's much better to get a local plumber to descale your pipes.

Experts recommend that you put two to four bags of potassium chloride in your water softener every month. This amount depends on how much is in the bag (40 pounds is most common) and what your water softener manufacturer recommends. For more specific advice, talk to a water softener pro in your area and read the manual that came with your system.

There are many possibilities for why your shower’s water pressure is low. It might be a simple-to-fix issue like the water valves being partially turned off, a dirty showerhead or hose, leaks in the plumbing, or an old showerhead. However, low water pressure in the shower could also indicate a larger issue with your home’s plumbing system.
