"They forgot to light part of the house per the agreed upon quote. They came out a few days later and added it but they used incandescent lights on that part instead of LED lights and they had a section that didn't work. So, we had to call again and wait a few more days to get that section changed. It is still incandescent, but at least they are all up and working now. At this price point, I expected higher attention to details."

Holiday Decorating questions, answered by experts

Standard holiday decorating takes one to three hours, but historic Mobile properties with complex rooflines demand four to eight hours. Wrapping a single mature live oak adds two to four extra hours. Because the local Mardi Gras season begins in early January, residents transition decorations quickly. You must schedule takedown as a separate project to prevent mildew damage in the humid AL climate.

Helpful?

Inspect your lawn for active fire ant mounds before placing ground-level stakes. To protect your family from shock hazards in Mobile's humid environment, elevate all outdoor electrical connections and ensure they are rated for wet locations. Secure cords along live oak root lines to eliminate tripping risks. Finally, unpack stored decorations indoors to check for mold, protecting children and pets with respiratory sensitivities.

Helpful?

Several factors impact the timeline for holiday decorating. Large historic homes in Mobile with complex rooflines and wraparound porches demand extra setup time. Wrapping expansive live oak trees requires separate planning sessions due to their immense scale. Unpredictable AL rain events interrupt outdoor installations. Additionally, older homes require an electrician to assess outdoor outlet capacity before a full lighting installation proceeds.

Helpful?

Sagging fascia boards and soft soffits indicate structural damage requiring a contractor before you begin holiday decorating. If outdoor outlets trip breakers instantly, hire a licensed AL electrician to upgrade undersized circuits. Dead receptacles corroded by Mobile Bay salt air demand immediate replacement. Additionally, live oak branches touching the roofline require a professional arborist to trim the canopy safely prior to any installation.

Helpful?

Completing holiday decorating early helps you join in Mobile's vibrant seasonal traditions, from Christmas to Mardi Gras. Investing in properly installed exterior outlets provides year-round benefits for outdoor entertaining. Since AL experiences mild winters, your decorations face less freeze-thaw stress, extending their lifespan. Setting up displays also prompts you to check your roofline and gutters, keeping your home resilient against Gulf Coast storms.
