"Removed and re-installed tile hearth in vintage house. Bought wrong sized tiles; we had to get new ones and pay to return custom-ordered wrong ones. Job specs said "raise hearth to level of floor," but tile is below level of floor. Had to be told that job needed toe-molding to cover discrepancy of levels. Despite one appointment and 2 follow-up calls, have not heard from Sheldon Miller. I am disappointed, since the first job he did for us was fine. Follow-up to previous review: After several phone attempts to reach RS Construction to finish a fireplace hearth replacement, they did come to finish the job--with my husband doing some of the prep work and the finishing painting and staining."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

You’ll need to wait until the surface is completely dry, which can take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours under optimal conditions. The waiting period depends on several factors, including the type of siding and the weather conditions. Trying to paint before the surface is completely dry can trap moisture under the paint, leading to bubbling, blistering, and mold growth.

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.

Yes, professionals offer slip-resistant options for added workplace safety.

Routine cleaning, sealing/staining, and inspection prolong deck life and appearance.

Eggshell and satin finishes are best for porches because they sit in the sweet spot between scuffable matte and distracting high gloss. Your porch sees a fair amount of wear and tear, so you don’t want paint that’ll show every mark like matte, but you don’t want to be blinded by glossy paint in the sun either. Eggshell and satin have durability and a look that sits nicely in the middle.
