Customers say: True professional

"Working with Jeff and Outdoor Elegance was a real pleasure. Jeff listened to us and even though he may not have seen our vision (at least initially), he worked with us to create what we wanted at a reasonable price. And, he was professional every step of the way. He showed up when he said he would, from bid to completion of the project, and he was responsive to our requests as the project proceeded. When problems came up, they fixed them. I cannot recommend Jeff more highly on professionalism, communication, and the quality of his crew. I expect we’ll be hiring him in the future to complete other projects, and I’ve already recommended him to friends. That said, I was a little disappointed that there were a couple of things that needed doing when the crew left—picking up leftover pieces of railroad ties and blending different colored gravels together. But, these were minor and would not stop me from hiring Jeff again, without hesitation."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

You can expect your asphalt pavement to last anywhere from 20 to 30 years, or 25 years on average. The life expectancy of your asphalt driveway depends on the climate, the amount of traffic, and how well you maintain it. While you can’t necessarily control some of these factors, you can control the amount of maintenance effort you put into your driveway.

To prevent your asphalt from deteriorating prematurely, you should follow a good maintenance routine involving regular cleaning, reparation work, and resealing.

In most cases, driveway repair is worth the investment. Your driveway is one of the first things people see when they look at your home, so repairing cracks, chips, and potholes can improve your home’s curb appeal and overall value. Repairing your driveway is also almost always more affordable than replacing it entirely—an average of $1,765 compared to the cost of replacing a driveway, which typically costs around $5,000.

Interlocking pavers offer a number of advantages over regular pavers. For instance, they’re more durable, more resistant to shifting, and easier to repair. There are also permeable options that allow for drainage. However, interlocking pavers are more often more expensive than regular pavers and are prone to growing weeds over time.

The best way to stop your pavers from sinking is to ensure you've properly compacted the base layers. Use your paver compactor and work over the base layer several times to create the hardest possible base. If the soil and sand of your base are compact, you’ll experience less shifting and sinking.

Paving is a part of hardscaping, so all paving is hardscaping, but not all hardscaping is paving. Paving involves laying down concrete or asphalt, while hardscaping can also include the use of paving stones, bricks, gravel, wood, and more. Hardscape features that involve paving are considered permanent and will increase your property taxes, while some other hardscaping features—like those involving bricks, gravel, and paving stones—will not affect property taxes. Paving also typically requires a permit, while hardscaping features considered temporary will not.
