".The contractor assessed the source of the water leaking into our basement.  He was adamant that he could not guarantee that his simple repair would work, but he wanted to try it before embarking on the expensive task of digging down and resealing the basement.  Since the leak had just appeared recently (and after some gardening work in that area), we agreed to risk the $1000 to try to caulk up the holes and regraded the soil near the leak.
They came on time, finished on time, worked neatly and, most importantly, seemed to be effective in the results of the repair.
I definitely would use them again even though, I felt, that the little time that it took them to repair did not seem to be worth $1000.  On the other hand, I do not really know what a fair price is."

"David showed up a little late but did call ahead of time to apologize.  He offered many different services--his company does so many things it's amazing--but really it came down to the roof.  He gave a decent quote--took a while to get his best offer.  He kept in touch after that via email...sent some good supporting photos and information.  I decided to not go with his company but believe he probably does a very good job and makes things right.  I will call him again when I want to do some remodeling or want some new windows.

"I originally hired Sam and his crew to complete a remodel on my master bath. I received bids from several contractors. Not only was Sam well under in price, but his overall demeanor and customer service made me feel instantly at ease. Throughout the project, Sam and his crew were professional, courteous, and overall a pleasure to work with. The bathroom turned out so amazing that I hired them a few months later to build a screened in porch off the back of the house. Once again, the quality and value were top notch!. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Pro Building Solutions to my friends and family, and will continue to call them for projects in the future, big or small. They are the only contractor in Huntsville I'll use!!!"

"Adrian is fantastic to work with! Every aspect of our project was done to our complete satisfaction, with quality workmanship. He is honest, dependable and is a real pleasure to deal with--first contractor we've worked with whom we have absolutely NO complaints about. We were so happy with our kitchen remodel, that we contracted with him to do a garage for us. We highly recommend Triscal Construction."

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Efficient appliance positioning, optimizing existing plumbing, and sourcing energy-efficient materials reduce financial impact and increase sustainability.

Building up by adding square footage to the top of your home is often less expensive than adding a basement, but it depends on the specifics of your house, your property, and supply costs. Because building a basement requires excavation, it can be a more expensive option than building up.

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

Yes, most general contractors require an initial down payment, typically between 10% and 25% of the total project cost. This upfront payment helps cover the costs of materials, permits, and subcontractors. The remaining project costs are usually billed after specific project milestones are reached or on set completion dates, as outlined in your contract. Be wary of contractors who require a significant deposit of 50% or more upfront, as this could be a red flag for a scam.

Roughing in and connecting utilities are the hardest parts of finishing a basement, and they’re the parts we typically don’t recommend doing as a DIY project. Unfortunately, your finishing timeline can be extended by weeks while you wait for contractors and inspectors to install electrical wiring, plumbing lines, and heating/cooling equipment and carry out inspections.
