They installed countertops in the kitchen of our 1920s home. The home had been well cared for and has excellent cabinetry. We sent a detailed drawing, with measurements, of where we wanted holes drilled for hardware - they drilled the holes improperly. They apparently cut one of the countertops too long, but forced it into place, and there is now a 1/4-3/8 inch gap between the lower cabinet and the wall as well as two holes in the wall immediately above the countertop, not to mention the stress on the wall from the granite countertop being forced in. They raised the counters almost two inches, though this appears excessive for leveling (former countertops appeared to be level, but we did not check, so don't really know for sure whether it was necessary to raise them that much). The new countertop was approximately one inch deeper than the old countertop and the countertop on one side of the stove was taller and deeper than the countertop on the other side. All of this caused issues with replacing the stove, which would not have been level if replaced and ultimately had to be raised by wooden blocks. They moved one side of the countertop out (leaving a gap in the back) and up somewhat curing the heighth and depth difference between the countertops on either side of the stove. There is a seam in the middle in front of the sink, which I understand from realtors, they have never seen done. It is a very visable seam. Because the countertops were raised, it was difficult to replace the electrical outlets. As a part of rectifying the problem with the mis-drilled holes, they suggested moving the switch for the garbage disposal to a hole in the countertop behind the sink. While attempting to hook up the garbage disposal, it appears that they disconnected (or otherwise caused not to work ) several other electrical outlets in the house - all of which worked immediately prior to the attempt to connect the garbage disposal. They did not complete this job and now there is just a hole where the button was to go. They did not even tighten down the faucet fixture.The initial installation took about a day, then they came back several times to attempt to rectify all of the issues over the course of about three months (February-May, 2013) Finally, we just gave up and paid them the balance of their charges (they required the majority of payment up front) We are left with countertops that are poorly installed, not even in heigth or depth, too high to work on if you are under 5'7and quot; tall, all of the electical outlets hanging out of the walls, a highly visable seam in front of the sink as well as a hole where the garbage disposal switch was to be placed, several non-working electical outlets, a gap between the counterbase and the wall and the countertop straining the wall, and facing the expense of completing the work and repairing the damage. For all of this stress, frustration, damage and future repair, I believe they gave us a $150.00 discount. The sales person was nice and tried to be helpful. I believe that he genuinely wanted to correct all of the problems, but he could not correct the poor workmenship. *note-I do not know exact construction date of our home, but it was built in the 1920s

In working on the project, they discovered that the hall area had original pine flooring under the linoleum and plywood and that the kitchen and dining room had pine flooring installed at a later date, and called us to discuss the possibility of refinishing vs. replacing the floors. Jesse and two workers came out about three in the afternoon (I arrived at 3:30 from work). By the time I got there, Jesse had walked around my property to find the outside vent (there wasn't one) and located my main pipe (cast-iron that goes from ground through the roof). I took Jesse through my house to show him the layout. My house: 2000 sq ft; laundry room is next to a double sink kitchen with a dishwasher (only used 4 times a year). The bathrooms are on the other side of the house: the large one has two sinks, a toilet and the original tub; the master bath (small) has a toilet, one sink and a claw-foot tub (original). The previous attempts to fix the problem included auguring the problem toilet and tub and an look under the house to be sure the pipes weren't busted. The problem started with the toilet in the large bathroom not functioning so I changed the inner pump. That did not help and seemed to make things worse. By the time Henson's got there: the toilet flushed very poorly, gurgled when the shower was run and sometimes bubbled (especially if the washer was running at the same time) and the sinks made gurgling noises when the toilet was flushed. Jesse walked through my home, listening intently, and checked the function of my toilets. He opened a pipe from the sink directly across from the problem toilet to add ventilation (that helped). By the time we went outside the team had the ground at the pipe dug up and a hole showing with the plate that had covered the hole and two bricks. After a couple of maneuvers to see if just the hole was the problem, Jesse augured the pipeline and got stuck. They left the hole open that night and checked with the city for cable locations the next day. I got a call saying they didn't think they could fix it that day (Thursday) but it was completed by Thursday night. I got: the hole fixed, the line cleaned (10 feet of dirt removed), a vent placed in the grass, a stump removed (next to the main pipe) and the grass relayed with the extra dirt filling a dip in the lawn. Clean, neat and polite. AND my toilet flushes, even when the washer is running! I wouldn’t recommend anybody use this company. At the beginning of their work we were not living at the house so we could not monitor what was going on. We started to have a little more contact with them about 3 weeks before we were going to move back into the house. He did not come get us to let us pick out new fixtures for the house and he put up what he wanted. We ended up purchasing our own but were never reimbursed for the cost of what we purchased. He cheated me out of kitchen cabinets. At least $3000 was to be spent on the kitchen cabinets. He went to purchase them from a surplus store and did a terrible job putting them in. The knobs are all crooked and off centered. He broke a pipe in my backyard which cost me another $1300 to have repaired, broke a pool table that will cost more money to replace and even though he was responsible for all of our electrical work he charged me an additional fee to run the wire to the new air conditioning unit in my attic. He ruined both the front and back yard and I had to pay others to fix them. Our bathrooms, which hadn’t been damaged in the tornado, were ruined because they kept all of their painting supplies in them. He built the laundry room incorrectly and I couldn’t open the door to it until I stacked my washer and dryer and had to pay an electrician to move the outlet so I could use the room. He has not paid the subcontractors he was using for the work. I’ve tried to contact him quite a few times and did finally get in contact with him to give him an opportunity to finish the work, but had to have others come out to remove debris from the yard and I am now getting estimates to have the work that’s left finished."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/al/tuscaloosa/i-and-j-home-repair-reviews-6509482.htm"},"position":10}]}

FAQs for kitchen cabinet refacing projects in Greensboro, AL
The cost of cabinet refacing is $7,230 on average. However, it's possible to pay between $1,200 and $16,000 for this project. Factors like the number of cabinets and the refacing materials impact the total cost significantly.
For example, plastic laminate is the most cost-effective cabinet option for refacing, costing $1,000 to $3,000. If you're looking for solid wood cabinets, you can expect to pay more, ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 on average for refacing.
The cost to refinish cabinets is $3,000 on average. However, this cost can range from $700 to $6,000, depending on the size and location of the cabinets, the refinishing method, and number of cabinets.
Staining your cabinet doors is the most cost-effective option, costing between $4 and $10per square foot. However, if you choose to glaze them, that price jumps to $10 to $25per square foot.
The cost of home remodeling is $50,000 for the average homeowner. However, this cost can range anywhere from $3,000 for a small projectto $170,000 for a whole home remodel. Factors like project size, location, and room type all affect your overall cost. For example, bedroom remodeling costs are one of the least expensive projects, costing about $1,500 to $5,500 per bedroom. However, a kitchen remodel has a significant cost range, totaling anywhere from $14,500 to over $70,000.
Yes, most states require home remodeling contractors to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed home remodeling contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
The best time of year to remodel your home is late winter and early spring when fewer homeowners are thinking about projects and pros are more available. Also consider the type of remodel you want and plan ahead as much as possible. For example, the summer is a great time of year to update your fireplace, but winter is a better option for fixing foundations and building room additions.
