"The Stump needing removal was the remnants of a tree which had been cut in order to replace septic tank field lines. This particular tree was over 40 years in age and its trunk and route system were grown and gnarled and tangled through not soil but stone primarily. There was a matte of surface roots covering the lower part of the driveway and across the top of this very steep and dangerous location. When Shannon pulled in with his trailer holding a piece of equipment I have never seen the likes of before that day. That piece of equipment was designed to grind a stump in the way a caterpillar moves. The equipment is from all appearances fastidiously maintained and to get to the start it had to make its way across a wide open trench which we covered in three-quarter inch plywood sheets in order to keep the equipment safe. This was the only route to get to the stump which sat on the crest of a steep, well very steep hill. It was amazing to see how adept Shannon is in managing that complex a piece of equipment he was using for this job. I had had two other attempts made to remove the stump and I figured when I saw that Swiss engineered Caterpillar looking thing that this was the piece of equipment and the right man to do the job. It was a dangerous and difficult job and I cannot think Shannon enough for his skills, kindness and consideration, his respect for my property, removing all of the debris so that the septic tank team could come back in the next day to resume their work, and for just being a great guy. Thanks to Shannon I had running water and septic tank service within a couple of days again. Shannon, well done."

"I’ve had such a great experience with JH Lawn Care! They recently installed our privacy fence, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. The quality of the work is excellent, and the crew was professional, dependable, and paid attention to every detail from start to finish. I’ve also used them for lawn care, and they consistently do an amazing job keeping everything looking neat and well-maintained. It’s clear they take pride in their work and genuinely care about their customers. If you’re looking for a company that’s reliable, hardworking, and delivers great results, I highly recommend JH for both fencing and lawn care services!"

"Jimmy, Josh and their crews took a jungle of a back yard and made it beautiful. The designed and did the entire project. We have received dozens of compliments from our neighbors as well as the City Inspectors. The built the retaining wall and waterfall, did the grading and installed the complete drainage and irrigation systems. Their price was very fair and concrete began the project they stayed on the job until they finished. I would give them six stars if I could. Highly recommend them for all landscape related projects. Small jobs welcome

I’ve been doing tree and skid steer work for about 20 years, customer satisfaction is my goal. The job is not complete until you, the customer, are happy. I am a perfectionist, I like and want stuff done right! I am willing to travel almost anywhere within the state. I am highly efficient in a skid steer and working out of a bucket truck..

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The rules and regulations regarding groundwater use vary between states. To find out if you can dig a well on your property, you’ll have to consult these regulations, address any compliance requirements, and get the appropriate permits. It’s also important to check that your intended location has the right geology and water table to support a well.

Depth is not a qualifying component of evacuation. Any human-made cut, cavity, or depression in the earth’s surface is considered excavation. The hole from excavation can be any size, shape, or depth. Excavation is used to create foundations, reservoirs, drainage ditches, and roads. Long, narrow excavations are called trenches and are often used for underground utilities.

The digging depth will depend on the size of the trencher you use. Even smaller units can dig up to 4 feet deep, which is plenty for a DIY job. However, much larger trenchers can reach a depth of 18 feet and are better used by a team of pro contractors, not a single DIYer. As with all home improvement projects, use the right tool for the job and proceed with caution.

The cost to drill a well varies, with a national average of around $5,500 for a 150-foot well. However, prices can fluctuate significantly based on several factors, including your location, the required well depth, geological conditions, local regulations, and the specific drilling methods used. For the most accurate cost assessment, it is best to research and get quotes from local well-drilling professionals in your area.

Landscape edging is more DIYable than trenching. You can DIY your own digging projects, but proceed carefully and only with proper knowledge of the equipment and appropriate safety measures in place. Keep in mind the project's scope and estimate how long it will take you to do it on your own. While you can certainly save money by DIYing home improvement projects, you can’t exactly hide an unfinished—or worse, ruined— landscaping job from the neighbors. It’s always safer to call an excavation pro near you to get an estimate.
