"I discussed the scope of work and the type of device with Kerry Adkins via email and phone.  He also sent me links to the Eaton site to read the manufacturer's info on the device.  Getting a better understanding of the capabilities of this type of system helped me greatly in deciding whether or not to do the work.
Once I decided to have the device installed, I set up the date/time.  Jimmie Jenkins, who has been at our house several times, arrived on time.  We discussed the device and his installation work before he began and Jimmie got started.  He finished within an hour or so and also pointed out some limitations in my grounding system.  It did not need to be done to install this equipment, but Jimmie explained the steps needed to improve the system and gave me a quote in case I choose to have that work done later.
Good job by Jimmie and Adkins.

"Very pleased...I was called in advance of my service window to advise the tech was on his way. He arrived within 10 minutes and I showed him the thermostat and the unit to be serviced. He went right to work and checked the unit in the crawl space. Then he checked the condenser to ensure there were no cooling leaks and cleaned the unit. The tech was very polite and extremely professional. I had used Ethridge last year when I had an issue and was pleased, That is why I chose them again. Daniel did a great job!"

"They began wok in January but its not done yet. We already have a radon detector and we have a radon problem and he brought in instruments to do the measurements to confirm my issue. We went ahead to have a barrier installed and fans and all that. January weather isn't good for any service industry. After he installed everything I went down to take a look and the quality of work was not what I expected. So I asked him to mitigate it. The reading on the meter was correct but it showed that the work he did wasn't helping. After that we had a weekly monitoring and then the readings weren't improving fast enough. So it went into February and then March and in April we've had continuous visits. Every time he came back he made some adjustments and we saw a little bit of improvement but it's still not quite where it should be. So it was not what I expected. I'm just about to call it quits."

"Jim did a great job. He quickly assessed the problem and then took our unit with him to work on it more. When he got back to us, the fix would have cost more than it was worth. He gave us options for a new or refurbished PC. We felt the refurbished was a good deal and chose that. He came back and set that up and we are very happy with it. He then took a look at my laptop and again took it along. He tuned it up and installed a speed upgrade we wanted. Of course, we paid extra for the new unit and upgrades, but we thought the price was very fair. Jim seemed very knowledgeable and responsive. We will definitely call him again if we need any computer services."

"One Call Roofing was great. On the initial estimate, they were a little higher than the other two estimates but the other two  estimates did not include installing the ridge vent. The other two companies were going to replace the turbines (both worked fine). There was no pressure to accept their estimate and no "fancy" talk. Phillip explained what would be done and how it would be done.
The crew was on time and completed the roofing in one day (it was almost dark when they finished). They worked solid all day except for a brief break for lunch and a brief rain shower for which they put tarps on the roof until the rain stopped. Very good crew!
They returned the next morning to clean up and run the magnet over the front/back yard to pick stray nails. They did a very good job of cleaning the area - I've found a few pieces of small pieces of shingles in the grass but I would expect that with any company.
One thing I really liked was the installation of a waterproof membrane under the roof valley and around the heat vents.
One more important fact:  I received a $500 discount for being a member of Angie's List. This was applied AFTER they gave me the estimate.

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

There are several types of home radiators, and the most common are steam heat radiators, electric radiators, and dual-fuel radiators. Steam heat radiators are connected to a boiler. Electric radiators can operate without being connected to anything else—they just need an electrical outlet. If you have a dual-fuel radiator, you’ll see a valve at the bottom of the system with a wire coming out of it and going into a wall. These are often your towel radiators in the bathroom. The type of radiator you have will impact how you turn it on.

A common HVAC rule is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of living space, you need 1 ton of heating or cooling capacity. Now that you know this common rule, you also need to know that it isn’t very accurate, and a dedicated pro wouldn’t use it for your home. If you talk to a pro who won’t or can’t perform a proper Manual J calculation, consider hiring someone more thorough.

Generally, an oil furnace is considered safer than a gas furnace for several reasons. While both types of furnaces can produce carbon monoxide, a leak in an oil furnace is easier to detect due to the smell. Oil furnaces also don't connect to a gas pipeline, which reduces the chance of a fuel leak. Most importantly, heating oil is not combustible, whereas natural gas is highly flammable. This means there is a much lower risk of combustion or explosion with an oil furnace. However, an oil furnace can still pose a fire hazard if it tips over.

All modern boilers are condensing boilers because they’re the most efficient type. Instead of extra heat leaving through the flue, these boilers trap the heat and use it to heat the house. Whether you choose a combi boiler, system boiler, or regular boiler, you can opt to get a condensing system. If you have an old boiler that’s not a condensing boiler, it’s a good idea to get an upgrade.

The primary differences between a heat pump and a boiler are their function and how they produce heat. A heat pump is a versatile system that provides both heating and cooling by moving ambient air and altering its temperature. In contrast, a boiler is solely a heating system, often working with a furnace or AC unit as part of a larger HVAC system. In terms of heat production, a heat pump generates heat more slowly and at a lower temperature, requiring a large convector for distribution. A boiler, however, produces a large amount of high-temperature heat that it emits through smaller radiators.
