Small jobs welcome

"Mike from Hornsby Mowing did an excellent job with my yard. I told him I wanted basic services, which included mowing the lawn and cleaning up the debris. He went the extra mile by trimming both the front and back yard, and he honored my request to make my yard look clean and tidy again. He was quick to respond to my questions, offered me a fair price, and gave me several ways to contact him for his services. I would highly recommend HornsbyMowing and look forward to continuing business with him. Thank-you Mike Sincerely!!!"

"They were prompt to call me back, very quickly when I called to check on the service. They were very professional, confident and when they came out they explained what they were going to do. They mowed, edged, picked up sticks and rocks in the yard and threw them away. They even pulled weeds that were coming from the concrete driveway which has never been done before. They are a local, new business and they are dynamite! These days good customer service hard to find and few and far between. They were top notch, they payed attention to detail and they made it personal; they made me feel like I was someone they cared about. I would recommend them to all my friends and family."

Weed Services questions, answered by experts

Yes, if your home is poorly maintained and has weeds and overgrowth, it can affect your home appraisal and lower the value. Home buyers want to see a well-kept home, and if yours lacks curb appeal whether inundated by weeds or not, you could be neglecting the potential for it to reach its full value.

Weed control applications usually cost around $100 each for a standard-size yard, and most professionals charge between $30 and $60 per hour for manual weed removal. Your total is affected most by the size of the weeded area. Some weed service companies offer weed control treatments, selective herbicide spraying, and manual removal and upkeep as part of a package, costing around $600 annually. You might pay less if you hire the same company for other lawn services, like flower bed upkeep, aeration, overseeding, and pesticide application.

The best time to hire a weed service company is in the early spring. This allows them to apply a pre-emergent weed killer that stops weeds from taking root, making maintenance for the rest of the season much easier. Following the initial spring application, a monthly service through the summer and early fall is a good idea for ongoing weed control. These regular treatments, combined with manual removal or spot treatment, should be sufficient to maintain a weed-free yard. Alternatively, you can hire a professional in the fall for the following year, as some companies may offer better rates on contracts signed before the busy spring season.

Crabgrass is very resilient, and homemade solutions like vinegar may not be strong enough. Typically, hand-weeding is the most effective option that doesn’t involve harmful chemicals. You can use corn-meal gluten as a natural pre-emergent herbicide, but it’s not as effective as chemical weed killers.

Whether a one-time spray treatment to control mosquitoes is enough depends on multiple factors. Often, you’ll notice a big difference after one application. However, mosquitoes are likely to return if you don't reduce attractive standing water habitats. This usually takes four to eight weeks if it’s still prime mosquito season.
