Victor from Best Deal was the only one to respond.; and he respoonded promptly. I also had called 2 other local vendors for estimates while waiting for a respnse from someone on Angie's list. Best Deal was indeed the "best" deal.
Victor arrived promptly. When he arrived, my houseguest was leaving. He was very much a gentleman and asked if she would like him to carry her luggage upstairs for her. I was impressed. He reviewed what I wanted done.... and, got right to work.
I had company and we were in an adjoining room. Victor took the cushions from the couch and brought them downstairs so he would not disturb us. Very considerate.
When he was close to being done, I went downstairs to retrieve my checkbook. I was blown away on what an excellent job Victor and his helper did. My goal was to mainly have it cleaned.. He was able to remove stains I thought would be impossible to remove.
His work far exceeded my expectation. His price very reasonable. I actually gave him above what was billed, to me the time and quality of work warranted it . My guests all wanted his business card. They were also impressed. I will use him again, and recommend him to others.

Installation takes all day (one person), and we have less than 1800 square feet (no huge oversized windows...pretty much just the larger one-window living room and one that is much smaller, larger one-window dining room, one larger window in the master bedroom, one smaller window in each of the other two bedrooms, 4 smaller windows in the breakfast nook). Three shutters had minor problems and even though they were installed (and fully functional and looked fine), the parts that were needed came in and fixed three weeks later...so six weeks was correct if you count waiting for parts.
Tom and his employee were totally professional, and I wouldn't hesitate recommending the company.
I never had shutters nor even knew anyone that had them. Here's some things to think about if you are thinking of shutters for your house:
1. This is important for those of us that live in Alaska during the winter months. Even if you have the louvers (the blades that open and close) open, it is somewhat darker than if you are used to shades where you simply pull it up every morning. However, the advantage of shutters over shades is the ability to have as much privacy as you want; you can have the louvers on one side completely open and the louvers on the other side completely closed (blinding sun) or any combination of opened/closed. We have relatively close neighbors, so the ability to control privacy is critical.
2. Although I vacuumed my old shades weekly (or should say, that was my goal), I could never vacuum the backside (closest to the window), and we all know how much dust is in Anchorage, so I never thought the shades were ever totally clean (between getting them cleaned professionally every year or two). For the shutters, I find that using a Swiffer duster is all it takes and much easier than when I vacuumed the shades. It does take a chunk of time to Swiffer the shutters; having shutters is not saving on cleaning time (as compared to vacuuming shades), but the end product is much cleaner!
3. I never thought of this until after we had shutters: All of our windows have 'grids' (the bars between the layers of glass so it looks like the window has smaller panes), so looking at the windows from outside, the shutters are not as attractive as they would be if the windows had no grids. And, of course, it is not an option to change out all the windows. If we ever build a house, I will remember to not select windows with grids, as I'm pretty sure I will again choose to have shutters.
4. And, finally, the windows from the inside always look 'finished' without having any drapes. I like simple and no fussiness.
I chose white shutters with the tilt rod not visible on the outside - I really like the simple clean look. The price was a little expensive but not that much more than the higher-end shades that I intended to buy. Also, our shutters are not wood. I believe they are the Palm Beach polysatin shutters, and being white, Tom said he recommended the non-wood alternative, which made them about 1/3 cheaper than the all-wood option. Perhaps if you want a wood look, it would be better if the shutters were a real wood product, but being white, it did not matter.

start to finish.
For the garden work, it was all manual
labor. The guys that performed the work were tireless, even in the heat of
early August. They were prompt, worked hard all day and did not work past
normal quitting time, so they were done when we arrived home from work. The
tools were picked up each night and the area left clean and tidy. These are
some of the hardest workers I have seen in a long time.
For the flag pole patio, Mike had
fabulous ideas for how accomplish our goal of having the patio slope up to meet
the edge of the driveway without interfering with any snow removal equipment
and to back fill our sloping lawn to meet the top of the retaining wall giving
our lawn a new, very much improved look. Mike also had the idea to edge the retaining
wall with a 3 ft. planter strip to provide a buffer between the grass and the
wall which we topped with redwood bark mulch. As for the patio itself, we used
hexagon paving bricks. The first idea was to use larger paving bricks to create
the slope from the patio to tie into the driveway, but after Mike saw the
appearance of the large pavers, he changed his mind, had the large pavers
removed and the smaller hexagon pavers cut to create the slope necessary for a
smooth transition to the driveway. The Sunshine mason is by far one of the best
I have ever seen. The pavers were cut with compound angles and laid with such
precision, it is impossible to see the interface from the patio to the sloping
pavers unless you are looking for it. Very impressive. In addition to working
to complete our project, we needed to have a different contractor come in
during different stages of the landscaping work to set the base for the flag
pole. Everything went very smoothly with two contractors working in the same
200 sqft area. Again, as with the garden workers, the tools were picked up
every night and the area left in a very tidy fashion.
I hope that Sunshine Garden and
Landscaping Services is around for a long time. They are a family run business
with integrity, knowledge and skilled, hard workers. Everything was completed
in a timely manner and to our complete satisfaction at a fair price.

This company was very professional and punctual. They generated a timely estimate that was lower than some of the competition. The selling point for me was Steve's laidback and honest nature. He also was prepared to start the work immediately.
When the crews showed up they made sure to make a very small impact during the construction process. They laid down floor mats to ensure dirt wasnt tracked inside the house. When I returned home from work everyday and they had wrapped up work for the day, I wasn't even able to tell they had been working because they left everything very clean.
Steve, the owner, is very responsive and is familiar with the AHFC energy rebate guidelines and specifications. He is also familiar with city codes and standards and he does many installations for Rural Cap. He helped me understand my report and he had some great suggestions to affordably reduce airflow (for example chimney balloons) and did a great job sealing/caulking in the house to meet the goals in the report.
Steve also made recommendations on important things that should be addressed during the construction process to ensure safety and energy efficiency. One of these things was the fact that my bathroom and range were vented into the attic on both sides of my duplex. He explained to me that this is a hazard and before he insulated the attic he made a strong suggestion to have these rerouted and vented outside.
The most impressive thing to me about the company was that they came back after all the construction was done and after my first energy audit and were willing to continue to help me achieve a higher energy rating by doing more sealing/caulking as they saw fit. That is something you just dont see these days! In the end my house went from a 2star home to nearly a 4 star plus home (I got a 4 star rating but was 1 point away from 4 star plus). I would not hesitate to recommend this company again."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/ak/anchorage/restoration-painting-and-home-improvement%2C-inc-reviews-6181083.htm"},"position":6},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"AAA Fence Inc","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"AK","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Lisa S."},"reviewBody":"Scheduling and responsiveness were excellent throughout the process. The old fence line was inside my property more than it needed to be. When I told AAA about this, prior to installing the slats, they quickly came out and reinstalled posts in the proper place. If you decide an in-ground or wall-mounted basketball hoop is best for you, you should consult a basketball hoop installer. They will have the necessary tools and experience to install these correctly and safely. If you were to try to install these yourself, there is a risk of injury or improper installation, which could lead to damage to the hoop or your yard.
The cost to install a basketball hoop can range from $200 to $5,000. This price heavily depends on the type of basketball hoop you choose, as some require equipment and some do not.
For example, you can most likely assemble a portable basketball hoop yourself, with a cost of $150 to $500. However, if you're looking for something more permanent, a roof-mounted hoop requires specialized tools and roof anchors, costing a total of $2,000 to $5,000.
The time to install your basketball hoop depends on the type of hoop you're installing.
For in-ground hoops, it's best to allow at least five days total for the entire process, which includes any utility marking, hole excavation, anchor placement, concrete pouring and setting, and final setup of the hoop itself.
The time to set up a mounted basketball hoop is significantly shorter, with most projects completed in just a few hours.
While there's not a lot of definite research, some experts suggest that an in-ground or wall-mounted basketball hoop can add value to your home by increasing curb appeal. In addition, having a basketball hoop is an attractive feature of a house since it promotes physical activity, especially for children.
There are many different types of basketball hoops available to choose from.
Portable hoops are fully moveable and generally do not require assistance with assembly.
Semi-portable in-ground hoops have an anchor cemented in the ground and a removable post.
In-ground hoops are fully built into the ground as one piece and cannot be relocated after placement.
Wall-mounted hoops do not have a post or pole and work well when space is limited.
