Since 2005, Resourceful Renovator has blended modern construction techniques and standards with the classic charm and character found in older homes. For us, it’s not about remodeling or historic restoration, but rather a subtle blend of the two that is our style of renovation. Resourceful Renovator is not your typical construction company. We’ll help you design a project that achieves your goals and modernizes your space without losing the integrity or historic nature of your home. We specialize in thinking outside of the box in order to find creative solutions to complex problems. We are a tight-knit crew that will be a pleasure to have in your home. When you hire a renovation company, you are inviting them into your home for a few days to a few months; who do you want to have around? Our crew is knowledgeable, conscientious, and friendly. Resourceful RenovatorResourceful Renovator has a tested and proven team of plumbers and electricians with whom we have a strong working relationship. Furthermore, our ability to partner with other knowledgeable resources in the community leads to the most efficient and coordinated building plan possible: we often work with custom cabinet makers, tile setters, insulators, and roofers. We run our job sites differently than most remodeling companies. Resourceful Renovator has a strict recycling program on all our job sites and typically recycle clean wood, plastic, metal and cardboard. We also strive to incorporate antique or reusable building materials within a project as much as possible. We frequent Mason Brothers in Essex Junction, VT as well as ReBuild in Burlington, VT in an effort to source high quality materials. This can help us achieve several goals: save money, save resources, match details that already exist within a home, or provide that perfect piece that can make a space feel extraordinary.

Together we played around with the design. Rob talked about the various kinds of materials and options I should know about; and also laid out the decisions I would need to make (lighting, number and location of outlets and switches, option of a door bell on the new front door, etc.)
Rob was very good at helping me prioritize so that I could stay within budget; and pointing out areas where I might want to spend more up front (good windows) vs. things that could be easily added or upgraded later. (changing the support pillars on the porch.)
He also suggested things I could do myself to trim costs (putting the shelves up in the new closet, painting.)
Rob was happy to use old closet doors that I bought at Recycle North and painted. He was very creative at finding old oak flooring to fill in the area where he made the new doorway into the kitchen. He was also good at helping me find homes for the old windows, old bricks, and other materials that still might have some use to somebody. We still filled a dumpster with construction debris, but it was gratifying to see that some things were able to be reused.
The work stayed on schedule and on budget.
As of March 2013, I am about to embark on a much bigger project with Resourceful Renovator - kitchen renovation, and addition of a mudroom, 3/4 bath and laundry area. I'm happy to recommend this company.
This job was much more involved, much more expensive, and we got to interact a lot more. They kept a neat and clean work place every day. We trusted them completely being in our home, and many of the crew were given keys to the house. Rob proved many times over that saving us money was key goal. He worked to re-use as much of the existing material on site as possible, and always helped us search out high value local options for other need materials. Some special materials included the local logged&milled new pine floor to match the 1899 floors in the rest of the house, $1.25/sq.ft ! Also using recycled 1890's barn board for a sliding door to the bathroom, at $1/board !
Pricing was transparent and the hourly labor rates were very reasonable.
In the end, because this was an involved home remodel, OF COURSE the schedule went crazy and we went over budget. That will always happen. But, it always happened with a lot of communication and working towards getting the job done right.

When we can afford it we will hire them again to help with some more downstairs renovations in our home.
