"I called at 4pm, and Rick said he had just finished a job and could come over to work on my system today if I wanted. Yes, our septic was completely backed up, so the sooner the better. Points there for being available right then. The quote I received was higher than I was expecting, but I was eager to get it taken care of, so asked him to come out for a tank pump, a backflow flush, and a leach field backflow check. What started as a simple pump out the septic tank turned into more. Things appeared to be working fine after pump, but then the water flow dropped to a trickle and started backing up in the shower. Rick jetted the line, but because it is an old house with 4 branches to the main sewer line, and the line causing the problem was branching at a sharp angle, causing a natural clog spot, the jetting wasn't cleaning it out. Rick went down into my basement, and from there into the crawl space under the house to get to the offending pipe. There is an access spot there, so he unhooked the pipe and manually poked all the clogging crud out. I then ran water down the bathroom drain to make sure it was completely flushed, which it was. While there, Rick pointed out a spot in the 50 year old plumbing where the pipe was rusting out, leaking a bit. He suggested we get that fixed sooner rather than later, because it would likely block again at that spot. He gave me a quote to replace several feet of sewer pipe. I know next to nothing about septic systems, and Rick was a wealth of information about what to watch for and how to take care of it. The bad news is that because Central Ohio is pretty much under water from the precip that won't stop, my leach field is flooded, and some ground water is coming back into the tank. If there are any issues with the leach field, we can not check it out until the weather dries out, if it ever does. As a result, we will probably need to have the tank pumped frequently to avoid problems in the future. This ended up being a 2 hour 15 min job, not a quick pump. Rick was thorough in testing out our aging septic system, making sure it was all clear, and chasing down the clog spot under the house. Then pointing out the bad pipe that will cause us problems in the future. That is "would cause". We intend to hire him to replace that aging sewer pipe. So while I probably could have gotten a simple pump cheaper, for all the extra work and thorough check, and immediate service, I felt the price was well worth it. You pay for quality. I certainly recommend this company."

"I couldn’t be more pleased. They offer a service contract that offers 2x annual furnace check and also draining hot water tank. This plan costs same as what I was paying an HVAC company that did not include hot water tank. It also gave me 10% off all the work they did and parts used. More than paid for itself. They also came very soon when hot water tank failed and arrived when they said they would."

"My project was no water. They needed to replace wires from pump in well to pressure tank in crawl space under my house, which required them to dig about a foot deep and about six feet from well to house. They came out and completed this task same day I called, However, after they left I noticed a pounding sound when I flushed my toilet, so two days later the same gentleman had to come again to replace the pressure tank. They again had to do some digging to get the tank under my house were able to complete same day Both jobs were completed in a two or three hour time frame and reasonably priced. I had been without water for five days before their first visit because I did not know who to call an electrician, a plumber or a well tech."

Septic Tank Service FAQs

The cost to replace a septic tank is $7,350 for the average homeowner. This cost can range, however, from $470 to $22,500, depending on several factors. Your house size is a significant factor in the overall cost, but other things like material type impact the final price tag. For example, installing a new septic tank in a one-bedroom house typically costs $500 to $900, whereas installing a new septic tank in a five or six-bedroom home is generally $1,200 to $1,600.

Yes, most states require septic tank installers to have a license, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed septic tank pro could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

The cost of septic tank repair is $1,775 for the average homeowner. However, depending on a few elements, you might pay as little as $170 or as much as $6,100. Location, repair type, and tank material all determine the final cost. For example, replacing the septic tank filter can be as little as $200 to $300. However, repairing septic lines costs more, averaging around $1,500.

A septic tank can typically last 15 to 20 years on average, though your system's lifespan will vary depending on the type of septic system and the materials used. To help increase your septic tank's lifespan, schedule routine maintenance and do not flush items like cat litter, cigarette butts, or paper towels.

Repairing or replacing a septic tank is a job best left to a professional. Your septic tank is an essential part of your home, and if installed or repaired incorrectly, it could lead to significant problems. Things like polluted water, property damage, and health risks to your family could all happen as a result of an improper septic tank repair or installation.
