GBC Kitchen & Bath
GBC removed old carpet in three bedrooms, hallway and stairs and installed Bruce hardwood flooring and completely reworked our staircase. They installed hardwood on the stairs and new newel posts. They also painted our hallway and staircase. Just gorgeous! Pedro did a wonderful job helping us design the project and Enrique, our Project Manager, ensured every detail was completed beautifully. They showed up every day and worked hard to complete the project. Their attention to detail was really appreciated and everyone was more than willing to answer our questions. I highly recommend this company and would hire them again without reservation. Job well done!!

JW Home Improvement
We bought our townhouse knowing it was going to need a few projects done in the short term. One of those was the creaky, squeaky staircase connecting the main level to the upper floor. Several of the steps were obviously insecure, bouncing and flexing whenever we stepped on them. However, carpet covered the stairs so we could not see the full extent of the problem or the cause. We contacted three home improvement companies for estimates. Josh from JW was the only one who seemed to have some idea of what was happening and what it would take to fix it. One of the other companies sent an estimator who shuffled around and took some perfunctory measurements, very clearly uninterested. The third company provided an estimate after looking at a photo on the phone, and that estimate was to rip out the carpet and see what the problem was—actually fixing it would be more. On our starting day, Alejandro and Pedro examined the stairs closely, taking off some of the drywall underneath to see if the stringers needed bracing, and taking the carpet off to examine the topside. It became clear that the stairs were in truly bad condition, with warped treads, risers that were not connected to treads anymore (if ever) and the wood used for the treads was too thin. Over the course of that first morning, our project plan evolved into a tear-out and rebuild of the entire staircase. One of them went to get materials and the other began the preparations. For the next four days our house was full of sawing and pounding and sanding, and when they finished on the afternoon of the fourth day we had a beautiful, solid and secure staircase, for a final cost that was less than I had expected. I’ve seen some reviews that say the workers are slow; in our case, they were meticulous, careful to do every step of the work correctly. Slow? I’m sure they could have done it faster, but it would have been at the expense of quality work. Alejandro and Pedro were friendly, hard-working and highly skilled. I recommend JW without reservation and will certainly bring them back when I have another project that demands their level of skill.

Vienna Woodworks LLC
Rich is a talented carpenter and general contractor. He is polite and friendly and I didn't mind my kids interacting with him. He uses quality sub-contractors. He gave helpful suggestions throughout our project and was open to our input. We love our basement remodel and we know if anything comes up, Rich will follow through. We added on a project to have him shore up our squeaky staircase and it is heavenly now! No more waking the kids on the stairs!

HCC Remodeling
Since I commute 40+ miles to work, I was not at home when the 2painters arrived. Owner had explained his hiring practices, told me he was bonded and made me comfortable allowing the contractors access to my home. I was advised that they had arrived and later when they left a nice message where they hoped I liked my "new " stairwells. The work was absolutely top drawer! The walls are old and trim lines not plumb due to age and settling. The cut ins to ceiling and stair trim were exceptionally clean and well done. 2 coats of paint and not a drop on stair carpet. Wishing I could afford a whole house re-paint! Highly recommend the company, HCC, and these painters!

Kustom Floors LLC
I contacted Rudy about putting hardwood floors in my rebuilt home. I had just gotten rid of a problem general contractor and Kustom Floors stepped in to finish framing, drywall, paint, and remove and correctly install the windows. Then they installed beautiful hardwood floors and stairs. All of his crews were professional. Best of all was finding a contractor who inspired trust and bent over backwards to treat me fairly. Thank you. I highly recommend Kustom Floors and plan to use them again.

JW Home Improvement
I cannot say enough positive things about Oscar and the team at JW Home Improvement. Oscar's abilities as a finish carpenter are the best we've seen in any home improvement project in our time in DC. He went above and beyond and demonstrated considerable personal pride in his work. He was an absolute joy to work with and we're grateful for the quality of the work he did to our home. We needed a 100 year old staircase reinforced and refreshed and Oscar painstakingly matched stain colors, repaired the area the staircase, and worked to correct bad work that was done in the past. Unbelievable value and workmanship in a marketplace that is filled with contractors that promise one thing and deliver something much less. We will absolutely contact JW Home Improvement again in the future and as specifically to work with Oscar because of the quality of his work and the positivity of his personality. Thanks again Oscar!

Kustom Floors LLC
We chose Kustom Floors to refinish our parquet, redo our staircase, and lay LVP on the lower level. I am a first time homeowner and had no idea what I was doing. I received several quotes from other companies and I picked Kustom Floors because of referrals from someone else in my community, their photos of previous work, and it was clear how passionate and knowledgable Rudy (the owner) was about the work. He was so patient and helpful with us, and I probably would have made some choices I would have regretted had he not taken the time to work with me. They did an amazing job refinishing our original parquet to a beautiful stain, and, after replacing our pine stair treads with oak, stained them to the same shade. Rudy also helped us pick out an LVP brand we had not heard of (Impressions) that modernized our lower level and is easy to care for. Besides doing great work, Rudy and Jimmy also were done on time before we moved in. We get so many compliments on their work, and we've already hired them again and plan to do so in the future. They truly deserve their five star rating!

Kustom Floors LLC
Much has already been said about Rudy's company, Kustom Floors, LLC. Here are several things from a slightly different perspective that you might find helpful. The project. Many of the reviewers here have used Kustom Floors to refinish old or existing floors. We used Rudy's company to install new hardwood maple floors throughout the main level of our house -- the kitchen, dining room and living room -- and solid maple tread and riser planks that Rudy's company stained and finished for the stairs leading to the upper level of the house. The cost. We live in a modest Gaithersburg townhouse. Of the 5 companies we received cost estimates from, Kustom Floors was competitive and reasonable. So if you're concerned that what you have been reading sounds great but might be too expensive, give Rudy a call and get an estimate anyway. You might be surprised. That being said, it's helpful to keep in mind that hardwood floors are expensive to begin with, and you need a quality company that you can trust to install them correctly and get the details right. It doesn't make any sense to buy expensive hardwood floors and then scour the internet looking for the cheapest installer in town. You get what you pay for. And by the way, even though we're sure Rudy works with customers who have budgets much larger than ours, we never felt like we received less than the very best his company has to offer. The value and the customer service are outstanding. The craftsmanship. Don't think of Rudy and his company as installers. It would probably be more appropriate to consider them craftsmen. Because that's really what they are. There are probably dozens of installers in the area who can install a basic hardwood floor. But no project is perfect, and every house has quirks and eccentricities that complicate the job -- and the attention to detail in addressing the subtleties, complications, and unforeseen issues is what makes the difference between an installer and a craftsman. Rudy and his brother Jimmy and the rest of the Kustom Floors team have the knowledge, the experience and the confidence to address the details of a project in a way that makes the finished installation look like the work of craftsmen. We were incredibly impressed by their creativity and ingenuity; the hardwood flooring in our home looks like a work of art, and we are leaving area carpets off the floors so that we can fully enjoy the artistry of their work. The integrity. Just when you might be tempted to think that there aren't any companies still around that operate with integrity, you will be reassured in discovering Kustom Floors. Rudy conducts his business operations with old-fashioned professional integrity. The job isn't finished until it's done right and the customer is satisfied. You can trust Rudy and his brother Jimmy to do the right thing. And it's hard to put a price tag on that. We were very pleased with every aspect of our hardwood floor project, and give the strongest recommendation possible to Rudy Arredondo and Kustom Floors, LLC.

DGL Construction & Renovation
Diego's floor crew was diligent and efficient. They took out the old wood and carpeting in a couple of hours, and were able to start the stairs and kitchen floor. The total process took about 3 days, and the new wood floors and staircase are beautiful! The banisters and handrails took longer than the floors just because the process is so tedious. However, the guys were very efficient and got all of them sanded down to bare wood before staining them. The new color looks good with the floors. When everything was done, they left the house in good condition. No trash or stains were left behind.

ServicePro Express Inc
We used ServicePro Express for our kids' bathroom and kitchen remodel as well as for new flooring throughout our main level and staircase remodel. I cannot speak highly enough about Chris, Joe and the entire crew. They were reliable, showed up when they said they would, kept to the estimated schedule and price. They were extremely professional and went above and beyond with the renovation making it as painless as possible for us. This was our first experience doing a major renovation to our house and the end result was amazing! Our kitchen is beautiful and we love it. We plan to renovate our Master Bath next year and we will definitely use Chris and Joe again.

Prospect Development Co Inc
The original interior stairs had deteriorated over the years and needed to be replaced. The stairs were removed and they replaced the stair casing in about three hours time. They returned on schedule to finish out the trim and painting. Beautiful job. Very Service Oriented. Price was for Installation Only. Actual Stair casing was a separate cost: $1200. The cost was just to replace the stair casing, Replacing the stair railings, newels, balisters was done by a different contractor. Overall, I'd highly recommend them.

Home Run Remodelers
I cannot say enough good things about Charles and his team. If I could give him a higher grade than "A," I definitely would. Charles arrived promptly to estimate our job and continually provided multiple options at multiple price points to help us stay within our limited budget. His estimate (which included $209 in county permit fees and a $400 Angie's List discount) came in extremely comparable to other Angie's List companies who quoted the same job, and we chose Charles mainly for this and for his professionalism. When we decided to go ahead with the job, Charles' team arrived on time and completed the job professionally well ahead of schedule (which was already tight, due to an insurance safety compliance deadline). There were several guys working on our deck, and they worked hard from sun up to sun down taking very few breaks. In addition, there was always a "foreman" on site, and someone checked in with me multiple times throughout the day to let me know what the status was and to answer any questions. When the job was completed, the crew cleaned up like they said they would and left us with a completely professional and perfect deck that we've gotten many compliments on. We are always wary to hire home improvement contractors because, even after using Angie's List, something always seems to go wrong during a job, and there is always conflict. This was the first time ever that this didn't happen! Charles and his team did what they said they would and did it extremely well. Here is an example of Charles' excellent customer service: One night in to the construction of the deck, after the crew left, we had the heaviest rain of the season, and water began pouring in to our basement. Because we had never had water in our basement before (we had just moved in 2 months prior) and because the deck was being constructed over the basement entrance, I assumed it must have been from something the crew did. My husband was out of the country, and I was beside myself, not knowing what to do. I frantically called Charles and left a voicemail for him at 11 pm. He arrived at my doorstep early the next morning and tried to troubleshoot the problem. He caulked one area that he thought might be responsible, but he wasn't sure since it was no longer raining and the water had dried up. The next night, there was another heavy rain, and again, water came in the basement. I called Charles at 8 pm, and this time he answered. Both he and his brother came out to my property immediately and spent well over an hour, in the dark, in the rain with flashlights investigating the problem. They determined that the leak was not due to anything they did with the deck but rather was caused by a faulty storm door allowing water to leak through the threshold of the door upstairs into the basement. They caulked the threshold for me and returned the next day and caulked some other areas of the house -- even though the leak had nothing to do with them! Of course, I felt dumb for bothering them and for assuming it had to do with the deck, but Charles and his brother were so gracious and didn't make me feel bad or like some "dumb lady" for calling them after hours over something that had nothing to do with them. Overall, a completely fantastic experience, and we definitely plan to use them again for other home improvement needs.

RC Home Renovation
It went better than I expected and I can't believe I am saying that based on my past history with contractors, handymen and remodelers! We were provided a professional, written proposal., they started the job on time, cleaned up each day, workers were courteous and professional, and they finished the project on time and were flexible when issues came up- like needing to change the design. We will be using them again for another remodel and we have already told several of our friends about them.

Abbey Design + Remodel
We had a great experience with Abbey Design Center. Our project included a remodel of our master bath, makeover of a full bath and powder room, installing hardwood flooring throughout the upstairs and redoing the staircase with hardwood. We had a lot of help with the design and selections from Zee. She was great helping us make selections which were in our budget but also made some great suggestions wrt design and options. In our opinion, Abbey's strength is in their ability to deliver and install. The Project Manager (Robert) and his team led by Roberto were excellent to work with. It was a long project and they were respectful of our time and were considerate regarding the inconveniences and disruptions that this type of project brings. The quality of work was excellent. I would specifically mention the flooring and staircase work that was done by Kimo. I have never seen a harder and more precise worker. This man is a craftsman. Overall, a job well done. I would highly recommend them for any major home renovation.

Projected was completed timely and very attractive results. Installed and painted spiral staircase as part of project. Workers were professional and very considerate (went through townhouse to get to deck site but masked) and cleared up at end of day. Corrected any punch list items quickly. During pandemic constraints: submitted Fairfax County permit application, worked with County e-inspections and ensured required stages approved and permit finalized. Another neighbor contracted with them for new upper deck and spiral staircase based on results.

Schaffer Construction - Designs for Life
I am extremely pleased. I have mobility issues and need handrails on both sides of our 2 floor-to-floor staircases (where there was only 1 inadequate rail) and 1 two-step staircase from the garage to the house. I wanted a certified age-in-place specialist to be sure the rails were ADA-compliant. Becky and Ben came out and assessed my situation, including making sure that the rest of the house was adequate for my needs. They were professional and friendly, explained what they were going to do, and accepted my questions and suggestions. This was not a normal handyman job. The cost seemed high when I got the proposal, but watching them work and seeing the result made me realize that I got my money's worth. The finish on the new railings closely matches the railings already there.

Phoenix Home Services Inc
It went great! Clint Asmar got back to me when I asked for a quote. I compared his to another company that was asking for $8k while Clint bid $7.5k. On top of it, Clint worked with me to incorporate 3 small retaining walls and included the digging and installation of a french drain to keep water away from the foundation of the house. Clint also provided 2 different 3D modeled illustrations to show the "after" look, which was really helpful for clear communication. I loved it.

Elite Contractors Services Inc
Absolutely ELITE! After 2 full bathroom remodels and a new office for my wife and since we have had such great previous experiences with Ken and his team. When it came to installing new handrails, pin top balusters, shoe rail and newel posts we once again elicited the professionals. Since staircases were so new to us we did our due diligence and contacted a couple "stair experts" for ideas and estimates. Importantly I should mention how difficult it was even finding someone willing to install a "s-curve" and gooseneck so that the handrail is continuous around corners. We knew what we wanted and I quickly learned not only was Elite one of the few willing to install a "s-curve" and gooseneck or was even capable of such but the cost was also less than estimates I received which would not include the continuous rail. Obviously there is a difference between doing something and doing something well and in this case we could not be more ecstatic with the final results! I'm not sure where Ken found his carpenter but the guy is a rock star! The attention to detail is clearly evident not only with respect to the handrails, balusters and newel posts but also the shoe and base moldings. After watching the precision he works with and how perfect the final product is, I'm more inclined to call him an artist. This all before we had 9 new doors with new hinges hung. I knew hanging new doors also requires a level expertise... if you want them to close correctly. Elite also provides this service and now we finally have doors in our upstairs bedrooms! In sum, the quality of work is unparalleled, as is the cost. Scale of 1-10, Elite receives 10's across the board! Thank you Ken and your team!
