Sol Construction LLC (Handypro of Washington DC Metropolitan) is the worst contracting company I have ever worked with. Ali Soltani, the man in charge of my disability installation, was incredibly rude, aggressive/belligerent, and unwilling to compromise. I would never work with this man/company again. When asking him a question, he left my house abruptly and in his car. He was unprofessional throughout the work and a money-grabber. He made a mistake while installing the stairlift, was unwilling to admit it - blaming me for HIS mistake, and wanted to charge me extra to uninstall the stair lift. Furthermore, he wanted me to buy another product and his manual labor (doubling the charges). This is no way to have customer service for a disabled, elderly person. Furthermore, when the work was inspected by the county, all of his work was failed - not passed due to being deemed unsafe. The outdoor lift does not work now either, not that I'd want to use it in this dangerous fashion. If you want to get yelled at, get overcharged, or deal with removal of products and bringing in another contracting company to fix mistakes, this is the place for you. I wouldn't recommend anyone to use this company.

Mr Schaffer spent over an hour explaining the chairlift installation and how it works before we purchased it.. (My husband is a stroke victim who has difficulty walking.) He also made suggestions for grab bars for bathrooms etc. He never rushed through our discussion, and when he and his worker installed the chairlift they did not leave anything to be cleaned up. Mr Schaffer is a very nice man and I would call him again.

We met the owner who surveyed the work needed and provided a bid promptly. The techs came when scheduled, worked diligently, and finished on time. The home was ready for our relative when she returned from the rehab facility.

Consulted on modifications to mother-in-law's house to make it more accessible to her. She has developed mobility problems. Schaffer installed a stair lift to allow access to the basement, put transition ramps around the thresholds to avoid trip hazards, and installed a very sturdy hand rail in the bathroom. They also changed the bathroom door to open out into the hallway instead of into the bathroom to make it easier to enter and exit and to assist if she does fall.

There was some difficulty with the supply line for the one toilet. But the contractor put in a new line through the garage ceiling. Some drywall had to be cut, but it was replaced and is barely noticeable. The contractor left the worksite clean and always responded to my change in direction

In every respect, they were outstanding. They were prompt. They pointed out at the beginning that the types of renovations they were going to recommend would use a lot of equipment that was made specifically for disabled people and that it runs a lot more expensive than buying stuff at Home Depot or Lowes. I thought their quotes were quite fair for a very large amount of work that they were proposing to do. They responded exactly to what I needed. Their punctuality was good because they were here on the minute. Their appointments were on time everytime. They were professional. I would definitely use them. Actually, I have never used any of the Schaffer services. However I did use recommendations for other people like installing a chair lift in the stairwell and their recommendations were spanned on for good work and for a good price. The Schaffer folks said that the disabled person is not going to get any better, which is correct and so they expect to do business with us from time to time for the next ten years or so. They laid out a good foundation and spent a lot of work on design, a lot of work on evaluating the house for the least expensive options.

I can't say enough about how great it was working with Amin and his team (Calixto, etc) for the renovation and expansion of our new master bath. Amin was a careful designer to consider both our tastes and wish list and address the customized asks we had for my 6'5'' husband who was greatly interested in having a shower that was "him-sized" to avoid daily ducking under the sprayers. He was selected for relationship, professionalism, and quality of design and the estimated proposal materials after we received bids from three Angie's List vendors. What we know now is that he stays carefully connected to local vendors and small businesses for his clients and he keeps intense focus on trends in the design industry not for zippy fads, but for conscious decisions you can make today to prolong the quality and investment of projects like this. I was grateful at every turn for his expertise and patience during our decisions process. We ran into two project blips (older home) that required adjusting the plan and reconfiguring duct work in the wall between the old closet and old bathroom for the expansion and when an upgraded tub was ordered by Amin's vendor (their error, not his!). Both were handled with quick phone calls and did not produce tremendous timeline delays nor dramatic cost overruns -- his team was highly experienced to take action in both instances to immediately address what happened. All-in the project encountered less than $1000 additional dollars over the estimate we originally received. The project timeline was a massive sprint to tackle a visit from the in-laws (even with the blizzard in the middle of it). More importantly, the project gifted us the opportunity to work with a very talented, kind-spirited, happy construction crew. Our home was taken care of as if the crew lived here with us and they were gracious to navigate the bombardment of my two little terrier pups and moments of other contractors coming in/out of the house while we moved in and conducted updates in other areas as well. We were wildly impressed every day with every aspect of this team and cannot wait to have a reason to contract Amin again, having already requested the estimate for our hall bathroom!!
