"Kenny shows up like clockwork to mow. However when it comes to trimming he would only do one side of the house, the front, and by a fence. But the other side is not done. I had a flowerbed along that side, but he never trimmed along the side. It had an edging. I would pull the grass by the edging to make it apparent, but as he mowed and didn’t trim the edge kept moving out where he would mow. I took out the garden to the grass grows up to the house. He said he doesn’t edge because he never edged that. (No kidding). In the back of the house I had a soft edge garden. He didn’t edge and the edge just kept moving out and it wad just overgrown grass. He said he didn’t want to mow into the garden. If there was an edge he would know where that was. I installed a raised bed with landscape block. It looks awful. The area hasn’t been mowed all summer. You can’t even see the raised bed. He said I could just settle my bill. I told him I would pay when he completed the job. He said he wasn’t going to eat. He’ll charge the elderly and tell them it was my fault."

Leaf Removal questions, answered by experts

If you have a strong back and a lot of patience, you can dig out a tree stump. You'll need to use a pointed shovel to dig out the soil around the stump, cutting away roots with a pair of clippers as you go. You’ve removed enough soil when you can access the taproot at the bottom of the root ball. After you cut that major artery with a saw or loppers, you should be able to roll the stump over and haul it away.

Professionals ensure minimal disturbance and can enhance the soil with treatment where the stump was located.

Leaving the tree stump and letting it rot is never a good idea, as this leads to insect infestations and other frustrations. Additionally, decomposing trunks are at risk for diseases that spread out to the remaining plants and trees in the yard, thus ruining your whole outdoor aesthetic. It's usually best to remove the stump at the same time you remove the tree.

It is possible for you to cut down your own tree, but only take this project on if it’s a small tree and you’re experienced handling a chainsaw. If you need to use a ladder to cut down the tree or tree limbs, it’s too large (and dangerous) for you to remove yourself.

Hire a pro instead who can safely remove the tree without injury to you, themselves, or your home. Either way, look into tree removal regulations for the state you live in before having a tree removed to ensure it’s not a historic tree or protected by your city.

Your neighbor is not in a good position to know if your trees are truly dead or pose any kind of danger. That’s why hiring an arborist or tree service expert can be such an important part of the process. If the trees are still alive and don’t pose any threat, you’re in the clear (but you may want to document and photograph everything in case events turn sour down the road).

But if a tree is visibly dead and near the property line, you should remove it to be safe. If a dead tree falls on a neighbor’s property, they may have grounds to sue for negligence. If any branches on trees have died, it’s a good idea to cut them back for similar reasons.
