To remove urine odor from a couch, you’ll most likely need to use an enzymatic cleaner, which targets the smell and stain.

Furniture cleaning is a relatively inexpensive home project, but it’s helpful to find ways to keep these services within your budget. Some ways to save on furniture cleaning include:

  • Cleaning multiple pieces of furniture at once to save on trip fees and cleaning minimums

  • Using slipcovers on furniture when possible to avoid stains and dirt

  • Blot, never rub stains, to try to lift the mess out without spreading it deeper into the fibers

  • Choose easy-to-clean furniture materials

To remove dog or cat urine from a microfiber couch, use a safe solution for your furniture based on its cleaning code. First, blot up as much as possible, then cover the area with baking soda for a few hours to remove the smell. For S cleaning codes, use a spray bottle to spritz the stained area with rubbing alcohol and gently scrub with a microfiber cloth until the urine is gone. Use the same process for W or S-W cleaning codes but with 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of rubbing alcohol. 

We don’t recommend you put your silk rug in the washing machine. Silk is extremely delicate; stuffing it in the washer won’t do it any good. Additionally, the hot water can harm your rug. If you have stubborn stains you can’t get out, the safest bet is to call a pro.

Yes, you can use a hose to clean an area rug. Before you do, it’s a good idea to vacuum out dust and dirt and use a rug brush to remove pet hair and other debris. Just be careful not to be too aggressive, or you’ll damage the material. Bring your area rug outside and wet it evenly with your hose. You can even use a pressure washer on a light setting if you have a new, durable rug. Continue soaking until the water runs clean, and then hang your rug to dry.
