Broken Stone Excavating LLC is a locally owned business providing services to Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania including dirt moving, lot clearing, driveway grading, sewage installation and repair, drainage and utility line ditching, foundation digging and aggregate delivery.

"They did an amazing job clear cutting and removing all the stumps out of my woods. Then level it all out and rerouted the creek farther away from my house creating my dream back yard. After they were done I had them come back and install new gutter drains on my home. They are second to none 5 stars all the way around and I highly recommend them. Best pricing around so if your looking for a quality job at an affordable price look no farther. Broken Stone Excavating LLC"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

For optimal sun exposure, strategically place your trellises along the northern boundary of your garden bed or adjacent to a fence or wall. Conversely, consider situating the trellises on the southern side in sun-drenched locales to create soothing shade for heat-sensitive plants, effectively screening and sheltering them from the scorching summer sun.

If you are installing a fiberglass pool, you may want to install or update your patio or deck at the same time to create a safe, comfortable place to sit and dry off or grab a bite to eat after swimming. You might also consider adding a hot tub to the mix, which costs $6,000 on average.

Pressure-treated wood is a classic and budget-friendly choice for building a pergola. If you’re going for a more natural look, opt for hardwoods such as redwood and cedar. These naturally resist insects and rot, plus they have stunning color and texture on their own, so you’ll be able to skip stains and paints.

Rather than using a common two-by-four piece of wood for a rafter, you probably will use two-by-six, two-by-eight, two-by-ten, or even two-by-twelve boards. Wider lumber is typically a better choice in a larger building as it provides more sturdiness. Some installers may use wider lumber for rafters near the edges of the roof, where the greatest stress occurs, and save money with narrower lumber toward the middle.

Yes, it’s definitely possible to build a pergola on an existing deck. All you need to do is attach the pergola support beams to the deck’s joists and build up from there. Beware that mistakes can damage your deck, so if you’re at all unsure of the process, play it safe and hire a pro for your custom build.
