to complete it in approximately 4 to 6 months. We broke ground in August of 2005. A couple of months into the build all work came to a screeching halt because Ed Grey (owner of Mill Creek Builders) took on a job doing an addition on another house. 7 months into the build we still did not have a roof on our house for which he had been paid to have done. He showed up with his hand out asking for more money and because he was running way over budget we asked him to account for how he had spent our money to date. He went off on a tangent, screaming and yelling that we were calling him a thief and stormed off the job stating that he would never come back. We were very fortunate to have found another builder that was willing to complete our house. In a way we were very lucky that Ed Grey walked off the job, because some of the work he did had to be torn down and rebuilt because it was not done correctly. We ended up with a 15 x 35 foot interior room with a basement under it that was supposed to be an open covered porch. This was a major structural change to our house that was not approved by us or the Berkeley County Building Department. Once our house was completed we had numerous windows and a couple doors left over and still sitting in our basement. There was an $1800.00 French door for a 6 inch exterior wall; our house has 4 inch exterior walls. All the windows and doors on my house were ordered by Ed Grey/Mill Creek Builders. Our ?dream" house turned into a ?nightmare" house because of Ed Grey/Mill Creek Builders. Thanks to another builder we finally got our "dream" house.

All surfaces got 2 coats. He was neat and clean and very cordial. Always arrived on time and quit for the day at an appropriate break in the painting (not by the clock). He was great to work with. Their idea of plaster repair was to basically "re-mud" the damaged part of the ceiling. Alll they really did was spackle it - which I could have done for about $15 worth of spackle. The job that previous contractors told me would take 3-4 hours, took these guys about 20 minutes. Then they tried to leave. I made them stay and found other wall repair that needed to be addressed. Everytime they completed even the simplest of tasks, they tried to leave. I had to stop them from leaving several times because they were trying to scoot out the door without saying anything to me. I even had to remind them that I had paid for 4 hours of their time. Then I was told that in reality the Big Deal was really for 2 hours time for 2 men. I've reviewed the original ad and my receipt, it clearly says 4 consecutive hours and does not mention how many workers that covers. I eventually ran out of jobs for them to do and had to let them leave. Since I expected their work on the main task to take much longer than it did, I didn't have the materials pre-staged to keep them working all 4 hours (which he probably wouldn't have honored anyway). The entire time they were in my house, the lead guy made every effort to upsell me on everything and drum up new business for himself. Too bad for him that the way to get my repeat business is to do a good job for me the first time. He can do anything for a price apparently, except the one thing I actually paid him to do. I feel totally cheated and basically wasted $120 for half-assed work I could have done myself. Lesson learned. That is the reason I gave him such a low rating. To add insult to inury, the materials he used to patch my ceiling left a stain so pervasive that it's still bleeding through 2 coats of primer and 5 coats of high quality ceiling paint (which is thicker than wall paint). And because he used cheap materials and I had to apply so many coats of paint, the weight is causing the ceiling to bubble and peel in some places. I have a feeling I'm stuck with that ugly stain, the peeling paint, that horrible look of my hall ceiling unless I call a reputable contractor to come cut the peice out and replace it entirely. You may need to provide your own paint, depending on the agreement you make with the painter. Some painters prefer that you buy the paint and they supply the labor. However, some professional painters get a better price on paint and can pass that savings along to you even after accounting for labor costs.
The average cost to paint a ceiling ranges from $3 to $8.50 per square foot, which is about $1 to $2.50 more per square foot than the cost to paint the walls. Rooms with high ceilings require working from a ladder or scaffolding and often include trim or detail work, which adds to the final price.
Professional painters charge $20 to $50 per hour, on average. Hourly rate cost factors include the complexity of the paint job, the type of paint, the height of the walls and ceiling, and the type of prep and repairs needed. For example, removing wallpaper costs an additional $3 per square foot because it can be very time consuming and labor intensive. Your location will also impact the hour rate.
To estimate the cost to paint interior walls, multiply the square footage by the average price range to paint interior walls, which is $2 to $6 per square foot. For example, a 12-by-12-foot room with 8-foot tall walls is 384 square feet, meaning that the cost to paint the room will range from $768 to $2,304. Painting the ceiling and any trim will add to the overall cost, as will any repairs.
