"Tommy and his crew did a great job re-staining our cabin and deck. Tommy communicated throughout the planning and painting process, which was very appreciated. He sent before and after photos to me because I could not be on site to see how it was going. Great experience working with him throughout the process. Highly recommended!"

Small jobs welcome

"Jerry's Painting team was outstanding and professional. Communication was great, choosing colors was easy. I changed my mind last minute on the stain for our porch. The company worked seamisly to make sure our home was exactly as we envisioned. Careful attention to detail was given. We would recommend this company 5 out of 5 stars."

"Nico and his crew painted my house at the end of last summer (2019). They were excellent! Amazing work and work ethic! Prompt communication. I was happy with the entire process. They charged a fraction of the price of a more experienced/established company (that gave me a quote), and produced an outstanding finished product. Neighbors and friends have offered nothing but compliments! I would hire them again without hesitation!"

"I heard from Baard the very next morning after giving my request to HomeAdvisor. Was able to meet him at location for the power washing & staining of decks, plus washing house siding. He came with a proposal which I was pleased with. Accepted his recommended color of stain for the decks. Even though the projected was delayed some by rain, Baard got the job done as quickly as possible. I will ditto what others have said, prompt, on time and professional. I would recommend him and hire him again."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

It’s best to prime composite decking before painting. This promotes better paint adhesion, helps create a smooth finish, and can mean the paint job will last longer. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application, allow ample primer drying time before painting (typically 24 to 48 hours), and thoroughly clean the deck boards to promote the best adhesion.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

Various kinds of substances and deck preservatives act as protective coatings for wood to prevent rot, which is caused by water getting into the wood and creating cracks and splits. Stains, paints, and sealants are the three best options to protect your wood, but there are also oils, varnishes, and waxes available. You’ll need to reapply sealant at least once per year, and you should inspect your wood deck regularly to look for signs of damage or general wear and tear.

A properly applied coat of stain will last between 3 and 8 years, depending on your climate. If you live in a place where your fence experiences a lot of moisture or high heat, your stain will last for a shorter period than in more temperate conditions. We recommend reapplying stain every 3 to 5 years to keep your wood in good condition.
