You can paint concrete with paint rollers. In fact, using paint rollers is considered one of the easiest ways to evenly apply paint on concrete. A paint roller with a 1/2- to 3/4-inch-thick nap—which is basically a fabric paint roller cover—is best for painting concrete. You can paint over plaster, but repair any damage to the plaster first, or the paint will crack and bubble. You should also prepare the surface of the plaster to accept paint, which gives your paint job the best chance of looking good and lasting a long time. Before applying the color you want, apply a coat or two of primer. Additionally, use latex paint, and choose a latex paint with a satin finish for areas with dampness, like bathrooms.

Bubbles can appear during painting for several reasons, but poor adhesion or trapped moisture are the most common. Painting over dirty, wet, or improperly prepared surfaces leads to air or moisture getting stuck under the paint layer. Using the wrong tools, applying paint too thickly, or working in extreme temperatures and humidity can also cause bubbling. In some cases, incompatible layers of old and new paint types, like latex over oil-based, create tension, leading to blisters and bubbles.

With a protective top coat, fiberglass door paint will last two or more years. Sometimes, this life span can be even shorter depending on what elements the door is exposed to. Conditions like heavy rain and snowfall don’t usually cause issues, but high temperatures and direct sunlight can quickly lead to cracking and bubbling.
