"Very well, these guys are great, they seal everything right and load tons of insulation. My house is now at a R60. And this was not cheap, however I do not expect heating costs to go down for many years to come unless we all go solar."

"The 3 or 4 young men that did the insulation work were very polite. They covered the floors, furniture and were very careful doing this. When the job was finished, they vacuumed the rooms and rolled up the sheeting that was used to cover everything and took it with them. I would certainly recommend this company. I will give them a 10 out of 10. Great job from start to finish."

"The crew arrived as scheduled like a swarm of worker bees. They were diligent and efficient. The job was done quickly and the clean up was excellent. We were hard pressed to find any debris on the ground. I indicated N/A regarding the quality because we won't really know for about 15 years. We did get an excellent 50 year transferable warranty, however.  The only problem was that the owner was a bit hard to deal with. He is somewhat pushy and defensive when questioned. Also, the roofing seemed to go a little better than the insulation and gutters."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

There are a few ways to figure out if your walls are plaster or drywall, but the pushpin method is probably the easiest option. To try it, choose a part of your wall where you can insert a pushpin or thumbtack without leaving an obvious mark. If it goes in easily, you have drywall. But if the wall is tough to penetrate, that’s plaster.

Yes, you can speed up the time it takes for plaster to dry, but it's important to do so carefully to avoid issues like cracking or crumbling. Proper ventilation is key; open a window or use a fan to circulate air in the room. Heat can also accelerate drying, but be cautious, as too much heat can cause the plaster to dry too quickly and crack. Check the plaster's packaging for the recommended drying temperature and set the room's thermostat accordingly. While managing humidity is important, avoid using a dehumidifier, which can remove moisture too aggressively and result in crumbly plaster.

Venetian plaster is a highly durable wall finish that becomes a rock-like substance once dried, making it last longer than most other wall finishes. Its lifespan can range from decades to centuries, potentially lasting a lifetime. Key factors influencing its longevity include the quality of the initial application, whether it's properly sealed against moisture, and how the wall is maintained and treated (e.g., how often it is touched or bumped). Due to its mineral content, it can also develop a patina over time.

Some textures are easier than others to DIY, but the short answer is yes, you can absolutely texture walls yourself. You’ll need certain materials, like a trowel or paint sprayer, but the most important things you’ll need are patience and time. DIYing wall texture can save money and be a fun, messy project, but homeowners need to know that adding texture to a wall isn’t a quick project.

Plaster that sags or bulges, shows extensive deep cracks, or is crumbling from water damage or simply time may need replacement. Plaster walls can look a little “worn” for a long time before they need replacing. The only real way to know if it needs a replacement is to hire a professional to assess the condition of the plaster.
