"Bigfoot Stump Grinding did a fantastic job for me. I had several tree stumps as well as several very large bushes that needed to be removed. He worked diligently on each project, did a great job cleaning up and charged a reasonable fee. Would certainly hire him again should I need his services."

"Called the city for me when I got nowhere, right on top of things and the cleanup was great, did not find one branch left, most of all they asked what and how I wanted things done, they did not go up and start cutting to how they thought it should be done, it was to my specifications only and they were very considerate, I will keep their card forever and the rate was very reasonable. Thank you NE tree service."

"I am very pleased with the work done. It was very fast and clean up was amazing. The whole experience was so friendly and they took extra time to remove another tree at no charge. Very very friendly and it was just well....actually fun. I would totally both recommend and call on them again."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

In most cases, your neighbor is responsible for roots from their tree that cause damage to your property. If your pavement, the foundation of your home, or a fence is damaged by roots from a neighbor’s tree, you likely will have legal recourse for financial relief. While it’s better to notify your neighbor of any problems you notice as soon as they arise to avoid costly damage, there are some instances where filing a civil suit is your only recourse. Your homeowner’s insurance company might wish to do so on your behalf if you file a claim.

Tree pruning is a common and helpful tree maintenance technique that involves carefully cutting and trimming unwanted branches so that the tree can continue to grow and thrive. Pruning is done carefully and intentionally. Tree topping is a frowned-upon method that involves removing and cutting most or the entirety of the top of the tree, including structurally important branches.

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

Yes, burning wood with Dutch elm disease is a safer way to dispose of it than, say, tossing it in with the rest of your yard waste, which could potentially allow it to spread to healthy trees. But it’s always a good idea to check with your local government to make sure you’re complying with any ordinances about removing diseased trees as well as burning brush piles.

Yes, it’s okay to trim low branches on a tree, also known as limbing up or raising the crown. Essentially, you’ll trim the lower third of the tree (trunk) and leave the upper two-thirds of the tree (crown). Arborists recommend trimming 20% of a tree’s leaves per season for two to three seasons. Trimming low branches allows light to flow through the tree, increasing circulation and making the tree stronger and healthier.
