"Moved into a new house, discovered some evidence of mice. Schopen came to the rescue! Setting an appointment was easy, the tech arrived on time, was friendly. He did a visual inspection inside and outside of the house and patched possible entrances around the foundation. He set traps and bait stations and then came back for a maintenance check. No major evidence of intrusion--the holes they filled outside worked! I am keeping them on for maintenance and adding a spider and bugs b/c they give a single fee for maintenance on both--which is a great deal. They also have an account portal on their website so clients can track spending, notes, and appointments. One national brand came and tried to upsell me--saying that I needed them to install a barrier around my house because of some issue with my siding ($2000!) and the cost of their annual service was double Schopen. I highly recommend skipping the big-name brands and going with this family-owned business."

"Jeff is the best! we went on vacation and unknowingly brought back bed bugs from Iowa. 9 days after we returned my daughter and I started getting bites and 3 weeks from our vacation I found a tiny bed bug in my shirt. The life span of a bird’s nest depends on the type of bird building and occupying it. The process of building the nest can take anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks. From there, the baby birds may need anywhere from 2 to 10 weeks before leaving the nest. While most birds will be grown enough to spread their weeks within 2 to 6 weeks, certain birds (namely predatorial ones) may not be ready for up to 2 1/2 months.

Many different types of animals like to build nests in attics. The types may vary depending on your home’s condition and location and you can prevent them by sealing off entry points and eliminating food sources. The most common critters that like to build nests in your attic include:

  • Raccoons

  • Bats

The nesting period can last up to 10 weeks, and some species will continue to nest four to five times per year. A bird’s nest could continue to stay in use for several months or up until a bird finishes nesting for the year. Hawk attacks on pets are rare, and they won’t target animals that outweigh them. Hawks typically weigh between one and three pounds. That means you don’t need to worry if you have a Labrador Retriever or French Bulldog. However, small cats and toy breed dogs, like Chihuahuas, are at risk. Pet attacks are more likely in winter when food is scarce or in the early summer when inexperienced young hawks are honing their hunting skills.
