"Craig LaPlant installed a metal roof on my home. The roof leaks above the bathroom. There is visible damage to the drywall ceiling and sometimes I find standing water inside the bowl shaped glass dome. The roof also leaks above a bay window and has permanently damaged the wood casing and caused mold to grow around the light fixture in the top of the bay. The roof was not installed according to the installation guide (page 10) and is most likely leaking in other areas we don’t know about. Craig does not stand by his work. Craig is responsive, but Craig never follows through on his promises. Craig does not keep his word. Craig does not keep his appointments. Craig does not communicate unless prompted. Craig is also combative and argumentative at times. Craig used our credit card fraudulently. Unknown to us, he was not authorized to accept credit cards. He possessed a legacy manual credit card machine and slips to image our card and obtain our signature. He then used our card to pay off suppliers. He did not ask for our permission nor inform us he was using our personal credit card in this manner. I have been trying to get Craig to address these issues for 18 months. I have made no progress with Craig. I offered to not hold him accountable for internal damage and mold. I even offered to pay his insurance deductible. I do NOT recommend doing business with LaPlant Metal Roofs."

if you install new siding on top of old asbestos siding, you may keep the fibers trapped, but it would not necessarily be considered encapsulation. To do so properly requires a professional, who uses a certain type of sealant that needs to be spread over the asbestos in a number of layers in order to trap all the fibers. Epoxying over asbestos tiles is generally considered a safe option when done correctly. Epoxy acts as a sealant, encapsulating the asbestos tiles and preventing the release of asbestos fibers into the air. The key is ensuring that the asbestos tiles are in good condition, firmly adhered to the substrate, and not damaged or deteriorating. This method is only appropriate for tiles that are undamaged and securely in place. If the asbestos tiles are already loose, damaged, or deteriorating, encapsulating them with epoxy may not be a sufficient solution, as it might not address the potential for ongoing asbestos exposure.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned the use of asbestos pipe insulation in certain applications in 1975. It released further bans in 1989 and 2019. While asbestos pipe insulation was common from the 1930s to 1970s, its use fell off after the 1970s due to public concern and the EPA's actions.

If you know your popcorn ceiling has asbestos, you should not attempt to clean it. It simply is not possible to learn how to clean asbestos safely without potentially releasing microscopic fibers into the air that could lead to severe illness in the future. Avoid disturbing or cleaning the ceiling until the asbestos removal company can get rid of the popcorn ceiling.

It is not recommended that you drill into asbestos siding, as you could release its hazardous fibers into the air. The best way for dealing with asbestos-containing materials is to have a professional remove or encapsulate it.
