"The staff seem to be really good and professional people. The reason for my 2-star rating is that the work done simply didn't deliver on expectations of durability. There are sections of my driveway where nearly all of the seal coating came off in less than 9 months, so I am going to have to re-do the job myself. This is not what I had in mind when I paid over $1,100 (a fair price, if it would have lasted longer). I understand that the work isn't covered anymore, as I didn't report it until the thaw revealed so much was missing, and I'm not upset with Merit or their staff. Asphalt driveways last anywhere from 15 to 30 years, but if you don’t stay on top of repairs, you may find yourself spending extra to replace your driveway before its typical lifespan. Stay on top of repairing cracks and potholes by routinely inspecting your driveway once or twice a year. It’s a good idea to pressure wash your asphalt driveway at least once a year to keep it clean. Apply a sealer every one to five years, based on your climate.

Gravel is one of the few driveway materials that can handle rain the second it’s installed. Unlike asphalt, which needs days to set, or concrete, which requires weeks to cure, gravel is ready as soon as it’s compacted. It’s naturally permeable, allowing water to drain straight through—with no risk of pooling or surface damage. Gravel driveways are one of the most affordable, at $1 to $3 per square foot, and can also last upward of 100 years.
