"Great. Their initial time frame was long (they were scheduling up to two months out), but I mentioned I was hoping for sooner. When, four weeks in, they had a sudden opening, due to a job in my neighborhood finishing early, they called to arrange and were there within an hour. Late notice meant I could not be home, but the arborist reassured me by speaking with me on the phone. The tree pruning was smart and sensitive. When I expressed some disappointment with underprunung on a big shrub, the arborist arranged to come back to fix it the following week. Super responsive, willing to explain recommendations."

"I would highly recommend Tree APE Service. From the beginning of the project until the end, they were extremely responsive, efficient, and a pleasure to work with. They quoted a fair price, and worked hard until the job was done, and cleaned up the yard after the removal was done. I would recommend these professionals to anyone in the area that is looking for this service. Thanks McCoy and team!"

"I wanted some big trees trimmed in my backyard, The man who came to do the estimate looked briefly at the trees and without doing any computing and gave me an estimate that ended up being twice as much as the company I used to do the job. This company is well-known and used by many people. I have used them in the past, but the service person that came was not helpful nor all that friendly--not to mention the estimate being so high."

"Jed and his crew were fast and professional. They were very careful where they drove their equipment so as to not run over any of my flowerbeds. They cleaned up everything after themselves the branches that yeah I saw dust everything. They got here when they said they were going to get here and they got right down to business and boom they were done"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You can trim just one side of the tree, especially when that side is growing near something like a power line or a home. Pros will carefully trim the tree back until it is safe from that structure. While this is common, it also needs to be done with the utmost care, as pruning or trimming away at one side of the tree may make it structurally unsound. This instance is yet another where hiring a pro is wise, especially if power lines are involved.

A tree growing close to a house can pose several risks, but removal isn't always the only or best solution. Potential problems include roots growing into the foundation and causing structural cracks, branches damaging the roof or promoting moss growth, and debris clogging gutters, which can lead to water damage. Trees can also provide access for pests and encourage mold. However, a small, healthy tree may not be a problem, and for larger, established trees, strategic trimming can be a cheaper and more beneficial alternative to removal. It is generally recommended to take action for trees within 10 to 20 feet of your home, especially if they are unhealthy or encroaching. Your best bet is to consult a professional arborist who can assess the specific situation and provide expert advice.

The ideal time to prune a tree depends on the type of tree. Typically, late winter or early spring is a good time to prune but isn't always the case for "towering trees." It's best to trim when trees are dormant and before blooms appear but can vary depending on the tree type. It's always best to research the type of tree or ask a professional tree trimmer to determine when is the perfect time to prune your tree.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

Not every arborist climbs trees, but most will do so if that’s the best method for assessing or treating a tree. Arborists have a variety of tree climbing gear and safety equipment to choose from when climbing trees. Consult your local arborist about their tree-climbing plan if your service requires that type of task.
