"They cleaned my gutters. They did a nice job of hauling all the stuff away so they didn't just throw it all on the ground. They put it all in a bucket and hauled the stuff away so I didn't have gunk all over my yard. They were clean and professional about it. They did an estimate to do some roof repairs too, but it has taken them 2 months to get back out here so that was kind of interesting. I think they were probably busy from their estimate or something."

"They do not cover my new units now. I found them to be difficult to work with. They sent somebody out to repair it, which we were told the compressor was gone so they couldn't repair it. But, the person they sent out didn't want to speak to a woman, he wanted to speak to my husband. They were just kind of curt. It was during a hot time of the year, but the company they sent out acted like they didn't even want to be here. We have an insurance on our house. My dishwasher had a recall and my garbage disposal was acting up and they came out and fixed it and they replaced the garbage disposal. My co-pay was like $75 for each. They kept trying to give me an unit that was not big enough for my house. It's 3600 square feet and we knew what was best for the house. I don't know what they were trying to sell me. I have no idea. My husband said, "No, we don't want this." So they did what they call a, "buy out" For one unit we got $600 and the other one we got $500 and the units were not even 10 years old. I paid $75 twice because when the first unit went out they sent somebody, the second unit went out they sent somebody out again."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

These appliances do unscrew, but you need to disconnect everything properly when you replace your garbage disposal. Make sure you shut the power off to the area first and check that it’s off with a voltage detector. Disconnect the main drain line and P-trap, and then disconnect the dishwasher drain line if you have one connected. You can then unscrew your garbage disposal using a disposal wrench. Just make sure you disconnect the electrical lines before removing your appliance.

While unplugging your garbage disposal and plugging it back in may help, most units have an actual reset button, a bright red switch found on the underside of your unit. If your garbage disposal needs resetting, you may notice this button sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the surface of the unit, with which it’s usually flush. Simply depress this reset button to reset the unit, and then test to ensure it’s working about 10 minutes later.

Most garbage disposals have a reset button that can be triggered with a tool as simple and accessible as your index finger. That said, if you need to perform a more in-depth troubleshooting step, like manually moving the arms inside the unit or rotating the impeller plate, a hex wrench is the most common tool you’ll need. Most garbage disposals come with a hex wrench.

Garbage disposals are durable appliances that usually last at least eight years as long as you clean and maintain them. It’s relatively rare for a garbage disposal to break on its own, as most malfunctions happen due to user errors, like overstuffing the grinding compartment or damaging the blades by trying to dispose of metal or bone. Eventually, cracks or leaks could develop in the unit, which requires a full replacement.

Never put glass in the garbage disposal. It can damage your disposal or eject shards of glass out of the disposal and cause injury. If you get broken glass in your garbage disposal, turn it off and cut the power from the breaker, use a tool like pliers or tongs to remove the glass, and use a wet-dry vacuum to remove the remaining glass pieces. If you can’t access the disposal safely, call a garbage disposal repair pro.
