"Cascade Mechanical sent a service technician the same day I called for help. Chris diagnosed a failing compressor... wouldn't start. He managed to get it to start occasionally so he installed a hard start kit that fixed the problem. I understand it's a temporary fix, but with heat in the 100's it's an inexpensive option. I've scheduled an appointment for a replacement system since this one is 36 years old. Chris was courteous, professional, very knowledgeable and willing to answer my slew of questions. Very responsive and professional."

If you’re pouring in cold weather, insulating under the slab can help prevent heat loss from the concrete, aiding in proper curing. Along with accelerants, this can be a good way to ensure strong concrete despite pouring in the cold.

On average, attic insulation costs $1 to $3 per square foot, so for a 1,800-square-foot attic, you’d pay $1,800 to $5,400, including materials and labor. The cost can vary depending on what type of insulation you use, how many insulation layers you need, and whether you need to remove existing insulation first.

Natural fiber batts and spray foam insulation both work great for soundproofing. Newer materials, such as hemp batts, are more expensive but more effective for insulation and sound blocking. They are also more sustainable. There is also a professional system called Blow-In Blanket Insulation (BIBS) that is soundproof and moisture-resistant. However, BIBS must be installed professionally and can be a costly investment.

Asphalt roofs provide better insulation than metal roofs, but that doesn’t always mean that asphalt roofs are better for reducing heating and cooling bills. In colder climates, asphalt roofs are sometimes superior in terms of efficiency because they introduce more solar heat gain to your home and have greater insulating capabilities.
