"Absolutely excellent experience. Near Me Roofing Company and team did a great job on replacing shingles and eaves. Great quality materials, worked hard and fast and left everything clean. Princing on par with others; highly recommended."

"Mr. Poliacek is very professional and knowledgeable. He is willing to take the time to find out exactly what you want. He completed our fence early and it looks great! We will definitely be contacting him for any future projects. I would highly recommend him and MARPO Construction and Remodeling."

"Cody built our deck onto our new home. He did an excellent job. I am a stickler when it comes to any work being done and I must say I was impressed. Cody also did other work inside the home! It all came out pretty good! I even considered putting him on retainer! When you find someone who does what they said they'll do, you hang onto them! The work was completed when he said it would be completed. Example: inside the home, a screw broke. Cody left the site went to the hardware store and replaced....that screw! No excuses. We appreciated him and his work! So, if there's any work we need done Cody has the job! Hands down! And he did all the work himself! HIRE HIM. You won't be disappointed! Thank you, Cody"

"Patrick with Farmhouse Construction did excellent work rebuilding my deck. This deck is off a 2d floor bedroom and has steps in between 2 levels. His measurements were precise and the wood (I believe fir and cedar is beautiful). He proactively explained his process, how he worked, any anomalies or unusual things he encountered and always answered my questions. He communicates very well. His work is outstanding and I would hire him again. I chose to stain the deck myself. Patrick spent a lot of time explaining the process of staining, the nuances of different staining products and applicators he recommended. He is great and cleaned up the old discarded wood and debris very nicely."

"They have now done two separate jobs on different occasions. Jobs consisted of preparing a floor for carpeting after a animal had ruined the previous carpet and wood. Also fixed my front door which was a little crooked so it stuck. I then called them back for drywall work after I had redid my plumbing. Excellent, professional work for both jobs. Well priced. Went above and beyond. Was also very nice and great to talk to. All around great work that I recommend. And I know we will have other projects for this company."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.

Board and batten is a type of wainscotting that uses wider boards that are placed vertically, and it has a much more rustic aesthetic than wainscotting. Common wainscotting styles are raised-panel, flat-panel, and beadboard. Wainscotting is more intricate and will typically use more elegant, subtle trims compared to the more farmhouse-inspired boards of board and batten styles.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface countertops can be cut with standard woodworking tools like a circular saw or a jigsaw, but using the correct blade is crucial for the best results.

The recommended blade is a tungsten carbide-tipped blade, often called a solid-surface planer or triple chip grind blade. This type of blade is hard enough to cut through the material effectively. For a jigsaw, a fine-tooth down-cutting blade should be used.

It is important to note that a diamond blade is not necessary. Diamond blades are designed for harder materials like natural stone, concrete, or brick, and Corian is not a natural stone.

Using blades designed for wood is not recommended as they can cause microfractures that weaken the countertop's edges. While a tungsten carbide blade provides a much cleaner cut, the resulting edge will still be rough and must be sanded and smoothed to prevent microfractures from developing over time.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

Landscape timbers can last 10 to 20 years in the ground when installed correctly. Pressure-treated timbers will last longer than non-treated ones, as pressure treatment makes the wood more rot-resistant. Wood exposed to high moisture levels or extreme temperature and weather fluctuations may not last as long as wood in drier areas with more consistent weather.
