"I called three contractors for pricing and Josephs was lowest. After reading all the reviews and checking the BBB site I hired him. He was quick and professional and communicated everything that was happening. I am pleased with the finished driveway and would recommend him for other projects."

"I called for service on a Saturday morning. I was told they could have a service tech out by noon. He arrived at 10:30am and he was done by 11:30. Dan, the tech was very friendly and and very efficient. I will surely call Matthew's Garage Door if I need any other service."

"Dan responded almost immediately to my email request for a site visit and was out within a few days to take a look. He made several recommendations and gave me an emailed bid based on the options we discussed. I met with 2 other local contractors (larger construction outfits) and both gave similar prices for the work to be done. We decided to hold off on the job for a few months until our financing was lined up and at that time I reached out to Dan a second time and asked him to come back and meet with both my husband and I to hash out details. He sat down with us and went over everything from lighting to size to color schemes and made recommendations. We agreed on a price, paid a deposit, and he started the permit application process. Our permit process became a huge ordeal thanks to the County and Dan was there every step of the way to make arrangements on our behalf and go to bat with them so we could get the deck we wanted. He measured every single square inch of the deck as he built it with precision and no detail was left untouched. He had to deal with odd weather situations (torrential downpours) and delays due to his supplier (misordered boards). Towards the end we did struggle a bit with getting timely communication from Dan on some final finish work but ultimately we got exactly the deck we paid for and get several compliments on it. In retrospect we should have set out a more concrete timeline as to start and finish of the project as it did take longer than expected. This was likely due to the fact that Dan built nearly every square inch of the deck by himself when we had assumed he had a larger crew."

"We hired PS Fencing for a landscaping job that involved clearing out a bunch of dirt and roots, and placing lots of rocks and bark. This team is super fast and efficient, and Juan was really helpful when we asked for ideas with things like choosing which rocks to use, or a barrier where the rocks and bark meet. The work turned out great and the price was reasonable too. They also replaced our sagging fence gates and the new gates match the existing fence but are super solid and nice. I’ve already recommended this team to several friends and family members, and will definitely be hiring them again when we’re ready to continue working on our yard!"

"It went very well. I called to set up an meeting at my house. I had the ground staked out beforehand to show the area that I wanted to extend. The crew came out and  did a fantastic job. Besides extending our patio, which has added value to our house, I also had them add asphalt to my driveway too which provided extra parking too. I would recommend using them and am thinking about having more work done on the side of my house in the future, meaning I would go with ANB Concrete LLC again."

"Crew were very conscientious and know how to perform the work with good materials. Very personable and friendly with the neighbors - very important on a job like this with a driveway between two neighboring households. Our garage pad needed a lot more excavation and structural (footing) support increasing the cost of the original bid with a fair price. Work was performed in a timely and professional manner for a good, comparable price in the Seattle area.

"The owner is very pleasant to deal with, and was on-site in person on the day his 3 man crew did a big yard maintenance day for me.  He listens well, and his crew performs services as requested.  They are careful with your plants.  The weekly mowing crew is courteous and easy to communicate with.  They do a great job.  Very pleased with this company.

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

Driveway gates can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years, depending on how well you maintain your gate, the material type, how frequently you use it, and whether you choose an automatic or manual gate. Automatic gates generally require more maintenance than manual gates due to their added sliding gate mechanisms, which can go out from frequent use.

Yes, most services include safety checks and anchoring to ensure stability. Confirm with your provider.

Double gates come with the same gaps as single gates, with hinges taking up a quarter of an inch of space. The difference is that double fence gates also have a center gap, which needs a little more clearance. Space the center gap at half an inch instead of the usual three-eighths of an inch for a single gate.

In most cases, you will need a permit to install a new driveway or property gate. An exception might be if you are simply replacing an existing gate. Before issuing a permit, your local municipality may require a site plan or survey to verify property lines and prevent encroachment on a neighbor's property. Permits for a gate typically cost under $100. Be aware that corner properties may have additional restrictions on gate height or style. It's wise to confirm permit requirements with your local building department or your gate installation company, which can usually handle the entire permitting process for you.

When building an outdoor or deck gate, it's crucial to use durable wood that can withstand harsh weather conditions like sunlight, rain, wind, and snow. Redwood and cedar are excellent choices as they naturally resist decay. While redwood is considered more elegant, cedar is a more affordable option. Other suitable woods include oak and pressure-treated pine, which is specifically treated to resist rot. Although some softwoods like pine are popular, untreated softwoods such as pine and spruce should generally be avoided for outdoor projects because they are susceptible to damage from water, rot, and the sun. Ultimately, it's wise to consider your local climate when selecting the right wood for your gate.
