"I want to give Johnson's Glass and Upholstery my heartfelt thanks for the outstanding customer service they gave me when replacing my damaged windshield. They agreed to let me drop off my car at 7:00 A.M. which is much earlier than their opening hours at 8:30 A.M. In addition they gave me a ride to work and pick me up after my work shift back to their store after they completed the needed repair. They were amazing with how quickly they were able to do the repair after I called to make an inquiry. (I got next day service) They also helped me with contacting my insurance to make sure the paperwork was done correctly. I worked in customer service for six years so I understand what good customer service should be. Again I want to say they gave outstanding customer service."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Doing your own upholstery work is possible, but it’s typically a better idea to leave the work to professionals. Without experience and the proper tools, it’s difficult to get a professionally finished appearance for your furniture, and many DIYers end up spending money on tools and materials only to hire a professional when they can’t get the fabric to look right. If you have reupholstery experience, feel free to give it a shot. However, if you’re not confident in your skill level or you’re working with antiques, it’s worth the money to hire a pro.

Upholstering allows personalization, extends furniture life, conserves resources, refreshes decor, and often costs less than buying new pieces.

When deciding whether to reupholster, repair, or replace old furniture, consider its age, level of wear and tear, and overall value. It’s usually better to repair old furniture because older pieces tend to be made out of hardwood, like oak and maple, whereas newer furniture is more often made out of plywood, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and other less durable materials. When determining whether it’s worth the price to repair a furniture item, calculate the price of buying a new, similar piece and compare that to quotes from local furniture repair services.

Many upholsterers allow you to provide your own fabric, which can help control costs and ensure you get the exact style you want. Some upholsterers offer a selection of fabrics to choose from, while others may require you to purchase it at a fabric store. Be sure to check with your upholsterer about fabric suitability, required yardage, and any additional fees for using customer-supplied materials.

The process usually takes 1-2 weeks, and it is highly influenced by the materials, complexity of the project, and any customization desired.
