"The Protech crew were very efficient and highly professional. The job entailed removing some 570 sf give or take of popcorn ceiling. Even though we're in N Seattle they arrived on time, thoroughly prepped the two rooms involved the first day and removed the popcorn on the second. Can't recommend Protech highly enough."

"Paul was punctual, and very informative on the condition of the attic and how to fix the issues he discovered...we had mold remediate before moving in 7 years ago and have been concerned of it coming back. When we noticed black spots reappearing, we called him. He gave us the peace of mind and a few suggestions to improve our attic ventilation efficiency."

"We ended up utilizing AAAFS for both lead testing and the resulting lead abatement. Faith was extremely professional and performed the testing in a very timely manner. The cost was much more competitive than other providers, without any loss of quality and a report to keep for our records. After finding that we had lead paint on our original exterior windows and trim, we got a quote and again hired AAAFS. Roxanne was very professional and EXTREMELY dedicated. She did quality work, and she and her work partner often had to work late into the evening to complete the job. There was never a complaint, and only a focus on how to keep moving forward to making our home safe. We would HIGHLY recommend AAAFS for lead testing or lead abatement."

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

Lead testing in residential properties involves collecting samples from paint, dust, soil, or plumbing and analyzing them in certified laboratories to accurately identify lead levels.

Some causes of brown well water—like excess tannins or dissolved iron—don’t pose a health risk. In other cases, harmful bacteria might be the culprit. If your well water has suddenly turned brown, it’s a good idea to use a home water test kit to get a better sense of what’s going on with your water. Consider calling a professional for an expert opinion before drinking the water and hoping for the best.

While the EPA provides guidelines for homeowners to perform DIY lead paint removal, it is a risky process and generally not recommended due to serious health risks and strict regulatory requirements. The process requires precise safety precautions, such as wearing a respirator and protective eyeglasses, creating sealed exits, and using a HEPA vacuum for cleanup. To ensure the job is done safely, effectively, and in compliance with regulations, it is highly recommended to hire a professional lead abatement company. Certified professionals have the necessary training, experience, and specialized equipment (like chemical strippers and HEPA vacuums) to handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely.

Costs depend on the number of samples, testing method, lab fees, and whether on-site inspections are required.

A lead paint inspection is a thorough examination and assessment of a building or structure to determine the presence of lead-based paint. Lead-based paint was commonly used in buildings before 1978 when its health hazards were fully understood. Lead is toxic and can pose health risks, particularly to young children and pregnant women. Getting a lead paint inspection means finding a lead paint inspector to examine the surfaces of the building—such as walls, ceilings, doors, windows, and other painted areas—and identify the presence of lead-based paint.
