"Jose did a great job doing a deep pruning on our 4 fruit trees, including a fantastic clean up of the trimmings. He came out within hours on my first contact with him to give me a quote for the work, and was back 24 hours later to do the job! Highly recommend!"

"Hired cutting edge to re-stain my kitchen cabinets and to repaint the entire kitchen. I am pleased with the work they did and would highly recommend to friends and family. They communicate well and even helped me with recommendations that I’m very happy with. The entire crew was on it. Reach out to them for all your painting and construction needs."

"Tree top service did and excellent job of cutting down two very large trees is an area of our yard that was challenging to access. They took away all the branches and even ground the stumps. Their price was significantly less than any other quote. Unlike other companies they didn’t require money up front. We went on vacation and when we got back, it was done. They contacted us during the process and kept us informed. It was a great company to work with."

"My giant cherry tree fell over at 5pm and I called Brian for emergency tree removal. The next morning, he had a crew out to chop down and chip the tree. He then came out with the stump grinder and took care of the rest. It was all done by 1:00pm!! I cannot recommend Sound Stump more highly. I was in a situation where the rest of the tree could have fallen and done serious damage to property. Brian saved the day; the arborists were incredibly kind, conscientious, and helpful, which I especially appreciated in an emergency. This is an exemplary company. Thank you, Brian!"

"I wish I could attach photos. Words can't describe the hugh job I had for them. I sold our pool which left a hole in the ground 3'x26'. The job was to fill the hole and get it ready then lay sod. Carlos and his crew went to work. I was impressed with them. Great work no time wasted. Each tractor load of dirt was taped down before the next load was added. As I watched I decided to ask them to do another job on my pet run which is 50'x15'. They were to remove the old sand and then put down new weed barrier and new sand. They also did great job on the run. I also had them make two new gates. Again the job was well done. This company has hard-working boss and employees. Cleanup was perfect they left on telltale signs that they had been here. Oops they left one sign the most beautiful yard I thought I would never have again. I am very pleased and impressed with this company."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Salt, herbicide, light deprivation, boiling water, and burning can all help dissolve a tree stump. You can also bury the tree stump in soil or mulch to help it rot naturally. Killing a tree stump prevents future regrowth, but you may also remove it by digging it out or grinding it.

You can use a felling ax to chop down a tree by following the same prep and steps as a chainsaw, but be prepared to use some muscle. For trees bigger than 7 inches in diameter, it can take some time and serious strength to cut down a tree using just an ax.

Depending on the severity of the damage, a tree might continue healing for years after a split or a break. Saplings can usually bounce back in the spring in one or two seasons, but larger trees might take a few years to regain their former strength. If your tree is showing strong growth and is not dropping limbs, you can consider it healed after the first two seasons.

The best time to trim trees is in late fall through winter when the tree has slowed its growing for the year. Cold weather stops insects and fungal growth from attacking a new tree wound. Summer and fall are considered the worst times to trim trees, but it’s permissible in certain scenarios, such as tree disease, damaged branches, or small, aesthetic cuts.

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.
