"John's estimate was reasonable and clear. He completed the work within the time frame he gave us. He and Ethan did a great job staining our house and painting the trim. They were efficient and detail oriented. I was worried that our front garden would get trampled, but they protected it with tarps and were careful not to step on plants. I will be hiring John for future projects."

Customers say: Quick response

"Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity hired Nate to spray foam the band and rim joists on two duplexes that we are building. The projects located in Essex Junction and Saint Albans also needed spray foam on the top of the walls in the attics overlaying onto the Sheetrock for air sealing. The job turned out great and preliminary air leakage numbers are down significantly from our prior builds due to these air sealing measures. Nate was professional, on time, flexible and a pleasure to work with. We will be calling him back to do more work as we continue to build more housing."

Painting questions, answered by experts

Maintain your wattle fence by inspecting it at least twice per year for loose weaving and degrading branches. Replace any seriously degraded sections, ensure water drains properly around the posts, and trim any sprouting branches if you used green wood. If you notice the weave loosening, you can often tighten it by gently pushing down on the top branches. You can also apply a natural wood preservative every two to three years to extend the fence's lifespan.

Regular cleaning, rust-proof coatings, and checking fasteners help prolong the lifespan.

To prevent a fence from becoming dirty, hose it down weekly and after every time you mow the lawn. This will prevent algae from being able to feed on grass clippings. You should also wash your fence once per season and trim plants so they don’t touch it. As a precautionary measure, you can treat your fence with a coating of a mold prevention product.

Both a roller and a brush are effective methods for painting a chain link fence. A roller will make the job easier by ensuring symmetrical strokes and reaching the backside of the fence as well, which cuts down on paint time. However, a brush is often necessary for painting the base of the fence and near the posts due to its ease of reaching smaller spaces.

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.
