In 1962 our business was started in Newport, NH, where we manufacture roof trusses, wall panels, door units, kitchen countertops, as well as operate a custom planing mill. In Middleton, NH we operate one of New England's largest state of the art saw mills along with dry kilns, planing and resaw operations. Over the years we've added convenient New Hampshire locations in Claremont, West Lebanon, North Walpole, Dover, Middleton. In 2001 we expanded into Vermont by acquiring stores in Rutland and Ludlow. We offer free in-home sales consultation and professional installation of windows, siding and doors. All material and labor are provided along with a written agreement outlining: total cost, work schedule, payment terms, insurance, consumer right of recession, certificate and license information.

"Almost a year ago we contacted Don Talbot (proprietor of Walker Hound Windows) to undertake a porch project- building a front porch addition to our lovely turn of the century house. We agreed upon construction design, plans, and cost, and entered into an agreement and signed a contract. As agreed upon, 1/3 of the cost down, 1/3 of the cost upon start of the project, and 1/3 upon completion. We paid the initial 2/3ds requested, a sum total of $10,900.00. For that sum of money, we received The City of Brattleboro building permit, three poured cement foundations for the support of the porch, framing of the porch floor, and mahogany floorboards. The three columns were ordered, but taken by Mr. Talbot after we had numerous conversations and exchanges regarding his lack of communication, and promises to show up to work, and then not show up. Such behavior continued throughout the fall of the job, and into the winter months. Our communications (and lack of communications) became too much to bear, and we decided to terminate the job, and go with another contractor to finish. We had asked repeatedly for receipts, and documentation on the work already completed, but were told that he (Mr. Talbot) did not make it a practice of keeping receipts for materials, or apparently a record of his working hours. By no stretch of the imagination was the completed work valued at $10,900.00! We have been asking for a remittance of $5000.00 since early spring. We have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in New Hampshire, and done all that they asked us to do with respect to follow up. The BBB reached out to the business several times by mail and phone. There has not been any replay from Walker Hound Windows. It is now the beginning of August and though we have reached out repeatedly to Mr. Talbot, we have had no reply to our request for reimbursement. Maira & Arbo R. Windows questions, answered by experts

Garden windows can add value to your home and are an attractive feature for potential homebuyers. These windows add a custom look to your home and usable shelf space for homeowners with a green thumb. You’ll likely recoup your investment when it comes time to sell.

Bay windows and garden windows differ in both size and window angle. Garden windows are smaller than bay windows and extend from the house at 90-degree angles, creating a box-like shape. Bay windows, often much larger than garden windows, consist of three windows set at 25- to 45-degree angles to jut out from your home.

Yes, professional window cleaners will clean the surface of the glass on both the inside and the outside. They will usually clean the tracks for your windows, check and clean the weatherstripping, and even disassemble parts of your window, if necessary, to clean and lubricate interior components and moving parts.

If your double-glazed windows are letting in a lot of noise, it might be because of improper installation. You may need to apply an acoustic caulk around the window to close any gaps or hire a window installation expert to fix the windows. Double-glazed windows are typically more effective at reducing noise when they have thicker glass panels or have a gas filling, like argon or krypton, between the two glass panels.

If your winter looks like heavy snow, freezing rain, or frigid temperatures, taking your screens out for the season can be a great way to avoid mesh damage or bent frames. Ice can build up and put pressure on the screen, especially in older or aluminum frames. Removing them also lets in more natural light during those shorter winter days and makes it easier to keep your windows clean. In warmer climates, it’s less about protection and more about preference. Some homeowners like the clearer view while others leave them in for convenience. Either way works—it depends on your setup and what you value more.
