"I needed a professional to mow my lawn. I found Pegton's from the internet and called. I reached Peter right away, and he immediately offered to meet with me and provide a free estimate on the next day. I was tied up on the next day, so we scheduled a meeting on the day after. At exactly our scheduled time, he showed up, walked around my lawn and provided a very reasonable quote, which I agreed right away. Then he told me the day of each week my lawn would be mowed. On that day of the next week, he and Josh showed up. They mowed the lawn, trimmed the edges, and blew away some small patches of chopped grass. When their work was done, the lawn looked great. From my encounters with Peter, I really feel that he is a very nice person to work with. He is very friendly, punctual, easy to reach by phone, very reliable, and does great work at very reasonable prices. I would highly recommend his services to everyone."

Lawns questions, answered by experts

The time it takes for leaves to decompose can range from six months to three years. Key factors influencing the decomposition rate include water, sunlight, and heat, so local weather conditions play a significant role. Decomposition will take longer for thick, matted layers of leaves. To speed up the process, you can mulch the leaves, as smaller pieces break down faster. Spreading large piles into thinner layers to increase exposure to sunlight and water also helps accelerate decomposition.

Unless it’s rubber or you need to prune suckers and remove weeds, you shouldn’t need to get rid of the old mulch around your tree. Simply push old mulch a few inches away from the trunk of your tree and then top it off with enough fresh mulch to reach 3 to 4 inches in height.

Using a leaf blower is often the easiest way to pick up leaves. It quickly and efficiently gathers leaves into manageable piles, requiring less physical effort than manual raking. Additionally, you can choose to bag the collected leaves or use a mulching mower to break them down into natural mulch, simplifying the cleanup process further.

Several tools exist that can help remove unwanted grass. The one you choose depends greatly on how much you need to remove and how hard you'd like to work. A sod or turf cutter is the fastest method while using a shovel is labor-intensive and much slower. You may also need a garden rake, tiller, and wheelbarrow.

If you want to take the decomposition process into your hands to speed it up, water and sunlight are key. Of course, you can’t control sunlight yourself, but you can rake leaves into piles in sunny spots in your yard. In terms of using water, you can also moisten the decomposing leaves with water, whether by pouring some from a watering can from time to time or using a hose to moisten them.
