"I was disappointed. It seemed like a switched deal. You advertised $49.99 as the price for air ducts and everything and when he came out here, he quoted me the price of over $200. He said that it was just vents and he wanted to do everything so I was just disappointed with him. I bargained with him and said that I did not want all the returns so I ended up paying $150 on top of the $50 that I had already paid. If I wanted both the returns it was going to be $100 above that.He knew that it was an Angie's List big deal purchase and he still charged me more than what the big deal was for. I know that he did pull dust out of the air duct and they were cleaned. He arrived on time, he was a young kid, obviously he wasn't the owner of the business or anything like that.I think that if that fee that is advertised on the Angie's List website isn't the correct fee, that needs to be disclosed upfront. The price wasn't unreasonable. It was regular if I had just called somebody out of the blue, but when you gave me that big deal price, I assumed that was it. I would not use this provider again in the future."

*** I have recently added the Nashville area to my service coverage. Since I can do most of my services remotely with you over the phone, I am hoping to eventually open up to larger markets and help people from having to take their computer in to get it fixed, if it has internet access, I can usually fix it over the Internet. Just trying to do more to help my Angies List customers!!******** I am a sole proprietor that works out of my home. I am my only employee, but I have over 20 years experience fixing computers, and providing superior customer service. I work on a flat rate service, and don't charge by the hour because I feel it's important to educate the customer on what the issue is/was, and how to avoid it in the future. I feel that local service companies (my competition) have been overcharging customers for years. I offer a first time customer discount of 10% but I will offer 15% off for first time customers referred by Angies List. I've lived in the Huntsville area most all my life, so I know the area very well. I will never use a subcontractor as I am very picky about making sure that if my name and company is associated with something, it will be the best experience my customer has ever had, and using sub contractors won't ensure that, so I prefer to do all the work myself. Lastly, I should point out that I am a former offensive lineman for the University of Southern Mississippi and was Brett Favre's center his freshman year at Southern. I went on to play for Tom Landry in his last year, but gave up pro football early on to pursue my passion of fixing computers. If I didn't have bills to pay, I would do this for free because I love it! If you have a computer problem, I promise you that you couldn't find a better technician that will care about you as a customer, and not about the bottom line. I am always available, but don't always answer my phone, but if you leave a message, I promise to back with you as soon as possible...and figure out how to get your issue resolved in a quick, efficient and economical manner. Thanks so much for reading my ad, and I look forward to working for you!

"Gill was able to quickly find the problem and ordered the parts right away. He took the time to show me the exact problem and  the diagram of the parts he was ordering. Gill came back the next day a little later than expected but I was at the end of his schedule for the day and he said there were a couple of unforeseen delays, which I thought understandable. Unfortunately, the part he received was wrong. After searching for the right part on numerous parts sites he explained to me that the part I needed was not available and that I'd need to replace the unit in which that part was manufactured. He was very apologetic and showed me the evidence that there was no other way to proceed. I told him to go ahead. The fridge is running beautifully. I was even given some good advice of how to minimize the chance of the problem reoccurring, which is likely with the make/model of fridge I own. (Samsung - they will fail and Gill knows how to fix them '-)Gill's a very honest, competent and communicative guy. I'll use him for appliance repair in the future."

"I was impressed.  It took me a long time to select a company as there are many roofing companies that are not professional either in terms of their quality or responsiveness. I saw the Angies coupon and got a quote. They were $3,000 cheaper than the other firm I had quote the work.  I live in Worcester and Vista is in Springfield.  They responded quickly for the quote and used a contractor out of Dudley (closer).  I choose them because of the Angies List references.  References tend to drive my selection if I don't have a contractor already.
I have to say that in all respects they performed very well.  It got very cold, very early in December and we had snow and temps in the 20's and low 30's while the job was in progress.  They showed up when there was 1" of snow and ice on the roof and they were anxious to finish the work.  What would take one to two days max in the summer, ended up taking a week because of the weather. The contractor doing the work was very professional - calling each day and telling me what the plan was based on the conditions.  Vista also kept in touch regularly.
All went well.  Communication around the extras (skylight and vents) was smooth.  I had rebuilt a cupola and installed it without any problems or fees.  In fact, the installation of the roof vents was not part of the original contract and I was not charged for that. They cleaned up each day and removed ladders and any nails etc. from the site.

"What I didn't like, I hadn't had any other problem in my house until I had an air conditioning problem.  While, they did take care of fixing most of the stuff with the air conditioning.  I did have to pay for the coolant that went into it, that was kind of aggravating, since you  know you are already going to pay a $60-$80 service charge for something and the you turn around and think you are covered and find out there are gaps of coverage.  We'll fix the part and pay for the labor but everything else is on you.  I think outside of price all the categories are an "A".  For price I'd give it a "C", because it's not like you are getting complete coverage.  I'd use them again if I needed to, I'd definitely consider it."

"Richard's company came and cleaned our gutters as promised in a timely and efficient manner.     HIs workmanship was thorough and neat.    He removed all debris and the area was clean and neat.    He also gave me a report on the condition of my gutters for which I was very grateful.   I will definitely hire him again to do this job and I will consider him for other work as well."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

On average, an AC unit lasts between 10 and 20 years. However, the specific lifespan depends on the type of unit, how often it's used, the local climate, and the quality of maintenance. Central AC units typically last 12 to 17 years, while window units have a shorter lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Portable AC units last about 5 to 10 years, and ductless mini-split systems can last up to 20 years. To extend the life of your AC unit, it's important to perform regular maintenance, such as replacing filters, cleaning coils, and scheduling annual professional tune-ups.

The simplest indicator is how long it’s been since your last tune-up. You should schedule an annual AC tune-up each spring. Beyond that, there are multiple signs that your AC needs a quick check by a professional. These issues include higher-than-average energy bills, decreased air flow from vents, higher indoor temperatures, and an air conditioning unit that stays on all the time or frequently turns on and off.

Freon will go in the refrigerant lines near the back of your AC unit. Look for small ports with caps on a thin copper line—the Freon goes into those ports. You are best off hiring a licensed HVAC professional who can complete the job safely and correctly.

If possible, avoid placing furniture in front of a return air vent. A blocked air vent can cause your HVAC system to use more energy, which in turn can lower the life span of your unit and raise your energy bill. Furniture can also trap hot or cold air, damaging your furniture or appliances.

Professional duct installers suggest leaving between six and 12 inches of space in front of an air return vent. If you must place furniture in front of a return air vent, try to aim for putting furniture over a floor vent instead of in front of a wall vent, and avoid draping curtains over any vent system.

Most HVAC companies recommend against setting your AC below 70 as it could freeze up the system and cause more problems. Regardless of how hot it is outside, there is generally a 20 degree difference between the outside and inside temperatures, so even if it’s 100 degrees outside, your AC will likely not be able to cool your home to 70 degrees.
