"I was not impressed with this companyâ s work at all. They didnâ t do what they said they were going to do and rushed through the project. We have two cracks in our foundation that we needed repaired and all they did was dig up around the foundation and slap some tar on it. I was told they were going to put stone against the foundation so it would drain right down to the perimeter drain and they didnâ t do it. They just put the clay back. Then the crack in the front they didnâ t dig down deep enough and didnâ t repair from the outside like they said they would. Again they just slapped some tar on it. When they put the material back they didnâ t tamp it as they went back up, so it kept settling and cracking. They took weeks to come back and put grass seed down. The top soil they charged me for they never even got they used stuff I had left over from a different project (which wasnâ t enough). And when I called to complain that they didnâ t tamp it, they had a guy come tamp it. He literally tamped it for 5 mins and spent the rest of the time leaning against the tamp playing on his phone. My step father had to come with his own tamp and it dropped another 5ish inches after he tamped it. And to top it all off the crack in the front still leaks. They didnâ t do anything I asked and didnâ t want to come back to fix/finish anything. I would not recommend them especially for what they call â smallâ jobs. They might of had a lot going on and bit off more then they could chew when they did our project, but they certainly didnâ t make it right either. I was told they would come back and fix the crack in the front and they never did."

Aardvark is a small business, locally owned and operated servicing all of Nothern Vermont. We specialize in hazerdous tree removal, and commercial and residential excavation. We keep it small with only 2 full time empoloyees and 2 part time. We will occaisionally use subcontractors for heavy trucking and crane work. Your contractor should handle dust control during the project. It's best to speak with your contractor beforehand to check if they plan to cover your furniture, protect your vents, or use fans to redirect dust. Eliminating drywall dust is a particularly large challenge during construction, so always take this into account during your planning phase.

Slab foundations are more affordable than crawl spaces because they require minimal excavation, as the slab sits directly on the ground or on footers that only sink a few feet into the ground. Crawl spaces require excavation of the entire footprint of the home to several feet below the surface. Not only does that mean higher labor costs, but more materials are necessary for the concrete foundation walls.

It takes two to three hours to trench 100 feet with a mechanical trencher or 10 to 12 hours if digging with a shovel. The total time to dig a trench depends on the depth, width, soil type, terrain, trencher type, and your level of experience. Digging in clay or rocky soil takes longer than soft ground.  

To drill a shallow well, you may be able to use a drive well point. This is a tapered point that is driven into the ground. A drill bit at the end of PVC pipe may be another option to consider. A lot of the cost depends on what tools are available near you.

Professionals who complete perc tests can usually do them in a single day. Including excavating to expose the test site, filling the hole with water, and monitoring it while it drains, you can expect the test to take between four and eight hours total. It’s possible that you’ll get the results the same day, but some companies may take a few days to get official results.
