Our carpentry work spans interior and exterior projects, with a focus on sustainable materials wherever we can.\n\nWe do both structural builds and interior finish work — from custom workshops and barns built from the ground up, to interior carpentry including siding, decking, and flooring installation and repair. "A little delay in getting an estimate, but Brad started the job when promised, remodel looks great. Brad was very accommodating (even walked the dog one day),was extremely neat in picking up at the end of the day, and price was as quoted.Have already hired him for a few more smaller projects. Do ask about a price for removal of construction materials since it may be an additional cost.

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.

Yes, you can install a farmhouse sink on an existing countertop—but there are some caveats. You’ll need to precisely measure. It’s best to choose a sink that’s the same dimensions as your existing sink, since your contractor won’t have to cut the countertop. Otherwise, pay close attention to the depth of your counter (the front to back measurement). You don’t want to install something that’s so big it sticks out beyond your countertop and cabinetry.

Before making any big plans, climb up a step ladder and closely examine the top of your cabinets. You’ll get to see what sort of clean-up work needs to be done, but you can also check for any unexpected obstacles. Sometimes this space holds electrical boxes, wiring, or even plumbing components. Those will affect plans to install a new layer of cabinets or shelves.

Butcher block countertops are easy to clean. You can use basic household cleaning materials like soap and water. You can even use vinegar or lemon juice and salt. There aren’t many special precautions like other materials. For example, soap tends to streak stainless steel while acid-based cleaners can wear down quartz.

Yes, countertop refinishing really works. It can help give your countertops a new and fresh look and extend their life by up to a decade. Countertop refinishing is a possible DIY project, or you can hire a pro if you prefer not to do it yourself.
