"Last fall I enjoyed working with Rocky Ridge Paving LLC on a private driveway project, and I cannot recommend them highly enough! From start to finish their professionalism, expertise, and dedication to quality were evident in every aspect of the job. Communication with the owners was exceptional. Evan and Josh listened to my needs and preferences, offering valuable insights and suggestions. Their transparent and clear communication made the entire process smooth and stress-free. I was thoroughly impressed by the skill and efficiency of the Rocky Ridge Paving crew. They arrived promptly and worked diligently to complete the project before the agreed-upon timeline. Their attention to detail was remarkable, ensuring that every aspect of the paving was of the highest quality. I was pleasantly surprised by their commitment to cleanliness and safety throughout the project. They maintained a tidy work environment, followed safety protocols, and worked responsibly. Not only did Rocky Ridge Paving deliver on its promises, but it also exceeded my expectations. The workmanship is top-notch, and I have received numerous compliments on the result. Although a young company, Rocky Ridge sets the standard of excellence in paving. If you are looking for a reliable, professional, and skilled paving company, you have found them. I am beyond satisfied with their services and highly recommend them. Thank you, Rocky Ridge Paving, for a job well done!"

"Provider was suppose to return and finish laying sand on the patio. Since job was very close to complete, I paid him rather than wait. I never heard from him again. The sand has since washed out in spots and another provider is correcting the situation with polymeric sand. Other than the sand issue, the patio looks good in the way it is laid out. Provider was punctual, and the project went very fast considering it was in the middle of the winter.

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

Recycled asphalt is a durable choice for a driveway, but doesn’t have the same appearance and low maintenance as standard asphalt. For long driveways in rural communities, recycled asphalt can make a great choice. Recycled asphalt is 20% to 30% percent less expensive than standard asphalt and is better for the environment.

If your new pavers look dull or unclean, it is likely due to efflorescence, a chalky, white powder that forms when lime in the pavers gets wet. This condition often resolves on its own, as rain will naturally wash it away within about a year. For faster results, you can use a pressure washer to clean the pavers. Alternatively, consider using cleaning products specifically designed to remove efflorescence or applying sulfuric acid crystals.

Paving is a part of hardscaping, so all paving is hardscaping, but not all hardscaping is paving. Paving involves laying down concrete or asphalt, while hardscaping can also include the use of paving stones, bricks, gravel, wood, and more. Hardscape features that involve paving are considered permanent and will increase your property taxes, while some other hardscaping features—like those involving bricks, gravel, and paving stones—will not affect property taxes. Paving also typically requires a permit, while hardscaping features considered temporary will not.

Driveway pavers are often worth the cost. Paver types like cobblestone, brick, and concrete are highly durable, and permeable paver options can be tremendously eco-friendly. While you may pay more for a paver driveway, you’ll see great returns from the increased curb appeal and low maintenance compared to other types of driveways.
