"We booked Mr. Fernando and his nephew and they were very courteous and professional with the repairs. They even cleaned up after the job was done. Our dining room ceiling is beautiful and better looking than before. We would definitely hire him again for future projects. Thank you from the Prices."

"Very very pleased with Mr. Handyman. Had a section of exterior trim that had come loose in the high winds we experienced recently. It was banging on the side of my house and was threatening to do additional damage. After calling, emailing, etc., several other handyman services (and getting no response) I discovered that I had saved Mr. Handyman URL on my laptop at work. Gave them a call and arranged to perform the repair a couple hours later. Arriving home 15 minutes before the agreed upon time, Duane was already there. He repaired the trim in less than 30 minutes. Very professional. Straightened up after completion. I will definitely use again!"

Pool Table Assembly questions, answered by experts

Combining pool and spa service with other projects is a smart approach for Portsmouth homeowners. Pair your service with electrical panel upgrades, deck resurfacing, or fence replacements to streamline the permit process. Schedule these combined projects during the October through March off-season to avoid disrupting your summer swim time. Avoid combining major landscaping work, as this complicates drainage assessments in low-lying areas prone to tidal flooding.

Helpful?

Start your pool construction and installation planning by checking your property against local flood zone maps. Properties in tidal areas require elevated equipment pads and hydrostatic relief valves to prevent structural floating. Plan your drainage infrastructure immediately to combat the high water table in Portsmouth. You must also install a compliant safety fence with self-latching gates to meet safety standards before using the water.

Helpful?

When reviewing quotes for pool and spa service, watch out for missing permit details for structural, plumbing, or electrical work. Portsmouth requires permits for these tasks, so omissions are a major red flag. Also, ensure the quote accounts for freeze protection measures and corrosion-resistant materials. The coastal VA environment causes rapid saltwater corrosion, so contractors must include proper equipment to keep your system safe and functional.

Helpful?

A standard pool construction and installation project in Portsmouth takes three to four months. Start your build between late February and May to avoid hurricane season delays. Permitting and plan review add two to six weeks to your timeline. Hampton Roads clay soils slow down excavation, taking two to four weeks. Hire a licensed professional to manage the schedule and handle the required city inspections at each stage.

Helpful?

Always obtain and retain all permit documents and inspection sign-offs after completing pool and spa service. Request as-built documentation for any plumbing or electrical work to help future contractors navigate the complex Portsmouth soil conditions. Have a professional test your water chemistry before the spring swim season opens. Finally, test all anti-entrapment drain covers and inspect your fencing to confirm your pool barriers meet all safety codes.
