JMS Builders & Developers is a Class A General Contractor located in Buchanan, Virginia. The company was founded in 1978. Since inception JMS has built well over 200 custom homes along with a portfolio of commercial projects. At JMS, we believe quality is a top priority and we guarantee our work. We work closely with our suppliers, sub-contractors, and other partners to ensure delivery of a beautiful finished product.

"Be very careful. we chose him because he made a big deal about how good his work is and how quickly he can finish projects. JMS started building our home in January of 2019. By October of 2020, he was $100000 over budget and the outside wasn't even completed, additionally, the basement walls were leaking. He spent a year saying he would fix the leaks, then ghosted us. We had to hire a lawyer to get his attention. Now almost 4 years later, the wall is failing and he still refuses to accept responsibility. He gives references who are friends or family. BEWARE."

I work for homeowners , do Sub-Contracting , Am very versatile in all aspects of home building and repairs. Have help available to do more intensive work. Very knowledgeable, and offer good opinions and cost effective. I perform my work and want repeat service to clients. Most jobs require material cost, permits ,overhead, before starting. An agreeable payment schedule based upon completed work performed, on jobs lasting longer than a week.

Stucco questions, answered by experts

Stucco is very challenging to DIY, so it’s always best to leave the work to professional stucco contractors. The same recommendation applies to painting a stucco house, which should be left in the reliable hands of a professional exterior painter. Inexperienced DIYers can make several critical mistakes during stucco application, such as:

  • Failing to apply sufficiently thick layers for longevity and water resistance

  • Uneven application

  • Uneven texture across the exterior

  • Mixing the stucco improperly, leaving a weak structure

  • Failing to texture properly in between coats, leading to cracking and chipping

DIY is possible for small areas. Professional installation ensures even application and long-lasting results.

Fiber cement siding is one of the lowest-maintenance options. The material’s formula is resistant to insect activities, moisture, and most physical impacts. Vinyl and aluminium siding is also fairly easy to upkeep. All these low-maintenance options only require basic surface cleaning, caulking, and regular gutter maintenance to prevent water dams from forming.

If you're installing stucco in a climate with extreme weather, synthetic stucco may be the only viable option, as it lasts longer, is less prone to cracking, and resists moisture better. Traditional stucco is a suitable option in hot climates where moisture and rainfall are less common, so it’s a good option for affordability both up front and over time in these areas.

The easiest way to remove stucco is to use a circular saw with a diamond blade to cut small squares out, pry them off, and then cut the metal lath behind it with tin snips. It’s possible to do everything with a hammer and a crowbar, but it will take significantly longer and will wear you out more quickly. Plus, you’ll have a higher risk of damaging windows, hidden siding, and sheathing if you go the less precise route.
