Small jobs welcome

"Circumstances necessitated I hire someone to continue lawn care through remainder of season. Being a veteran myself, it was important I hire a veteran. Within minutes of posting the job I received a call from AVLC, & within days they were here walking my lawn & giving an assessment. On the first visit AVLC did more than asked, & that in almost 100 degree heat! Hire this company!"

"I used them last yeaz4 2017 for a few times and liked the service. The first time this year, the grass wasn't cut as short as I normally would have cut it. Subsequently, the neighbors yards which had been cut previous to mine were still short compared to mine and since I only get it cut once every two weeks, this means my grass still looks unkempt next to the neighbors' yards. Also, I have several solar powered small lights on a stature out front and two were knocked down by the weed eater and one of those was broken so it can't be used again. They are not cheap garden accessories. However, I will continue to use the service for the money paid is worth the small iinconveniences. If another solar panel light is broken, I will ask them to replace it."

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

Yes, watering after you level a lawn is essential. Water helps settle the soil, eliminating air pockets and encouraging the newly-applied topdressing to bond with the existing surface. Adequate watering aids in achieving a smoother and more even lawn surface. However, be sure to avoid overwatering, which could lead to soil erosion or compaction issues.

During normal temperatures, you should mow about once per week. However, if your grass is distressed by extreme heat, you should avoid mowing it altogether. Wait until after an irrigation session or rainfall. That way, your grass will be good and hydrated before you mow. Remember, you should not mow the grass when it’s wet. Wait until it dries first.

Your St. Augustine grass might look bad due to cold winter months, drought, pest invasion, or lawn disease. The first step is properly identifying the problem. Once you’ve figured out what’s making your grass look bad, you’ll need to employ the correct treatments. These treatments may include:

  • Properly mow your lawn and keep the clippings on the lawn as organic matter.

  • Use healthy irrigation techniques.

  • Use the right amount of fertilizer.

  • Keep up a good, regular maintenance routine.

  • Use fungicides.

Both zoysia grass and bermuda grass are somewhat similar to St. Augustine because they’re all warm-season grasses. Beyond that, most grass types have unique properties that set them apart. Zoysia grass costs twice the price of St. Augustine grass on average and it has thinner blades and a deeper green appearance. Bermuda grass, compared to St. Augustine, has much thinner blades, is softer to the touch, and has a higher tolerance for colder weather.

Buffalo grass does not turn green as early in the spring as some other grasses. If you have a heavily shaded yard, buffalo grass may not receive enough sunlight to thrive. It’s not as dense as some other grass varieties, so it may not feel as comfortable on bare feet.
