"I called Wooldridge after unsuccessfully trying to get a competitor to follow-up on a portable generator hook-up quotation request.
This was my first experience with Wooldridge and I contacted them because of their good rating on Angie's list and their experience with generators. When I called Wooldridge they were very friendly and were able to quickly come out for a no-charge estimate.  Both Melvin, the estimator who came to my residence, and Clint the installer, were very friendly and listened and responded to my needs and concerns.  This was important to me as my installation was a little different than most. The install went well and the installer worked with me to see where I wanted various items installed.
Overall the work quality was very good, but there were a couple of minor items that prevented me from giving an 'A' rating.  Specifically the ammeter was designed for surface mount to something other than drywall (not something the installer would have known ahead of time), and neither he nor I had drywall anchors, so he attached it to the drywall with screws.  Later when I inspected it, I noticed it was a bit loose.  I was able to fix myself with $1 worth of drywall anchors.  The other minor item was that the wiring for the generator was installed through a new panel knockout without any grommet protection.  I noticed this also after the install.  I believe the reason this was done was that the grommets usually require access from both sides of the panel (inside and outside); my panel is recessed with drywall around it, so  you cannot access the outside for the grommet attachment.  So from that perspective I don't fault the installer; however, that would probably be considered a code violation.  I will need to get creative to find something that will protect the cables from rubbing against the edges of the knockout hole.
Price was a little higher than I thought it should have been, but I have not had electrical work done in over 10 years so I cannot judge the price with certainty.  Note I could have purchased all the installer provided materials myself for $425-$450, and the installation took 3 hours.  However, my final charge matched my quotation, so I am satisfied with the price and cannot complain.  Thanks to Angie's list I was able to save with a first-time customer coupon.
Overall this was a good install, without a long wait from quote request to installation, at a fairly reasonable price.  Wooldridge takes your business seriously and is both responsive and friendly.  I will definitely contact Wooldridge for future electrical needs.

"Earth-Right Mid-Atlantic ha s done two installations. The first was to install a Solar System on our home in July 2019 and the second was to insulator attics with Earth-Shield. The Solar Panel has reduced my monthly bill to $8.33 per month for the last year. The bill is for the Chesapeake Utility Tax. The system works flawlessly. The Earth-Shield was suggested by Earth Right Mid-Atlantic's salesman Corey Argentino. I has explained that we were experiencing imbalances in heating and cooling zones in the house. He suggested a product Called Earth-Shield and the too hot and too cold zones all disappeared. The house now has better and a more uniform heating and cooling result. The Heating Ventilating and AirConditioning systems do not run as frequently. Great Job."

"The last was a rental company that we have and we used them for an air conditioning and heating system. It was Bototach Mechanical. It’s been a good program for us. They’re very responsive. I don’t know what the thought process was. My husband said, well let’s try these guys and so we did. We have an older home and it’s proved to be a very good deal. The quality has been pretty good, so I would give them an A for the quality. I will give you one helpful hint though. If the company decides they want to replace an appliance, you need to call them and negotiate with them because you can upgrade, but you need to talk to them in person not just do it over the internet."

"We're tickled to death with it. Called and he made time to come on out here and had to take a panel off and the old heater out because it had busted. He actually cares about his work and what he's doing. He cleaned up and took the old water heater with him when he left. I never felt like the dollar sign was the only thing he's lookin' at."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

Solar panels can pay for themselves in five to 15 years, depending on the cost of your system, how much energy it generates, whether you qualify for incentives or power buybacks, and the price of energy in your area. Solar panels pay for themselves over time as they lower electricity bills, so it will take time to recoup your initial investment. However, the longer you have your system, the more money you can save and earn.

The average cost to install solar panels is around $27,000, with most homeowners paying between $4,500 and $54,000. These prices don’t consider the federal investment tax credit (ITC), which can reduce costs by up to 30%. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of the system needed to offset your energy consumption, the amount of sunlight your home receives, your geographical location, the type and brand of panels, labor costs, and any add-on products like solar batteries or electric vehicle (EV) chargers. It is recommended to get price quotes from at least three solar companies in your area to find the best deal.

It’s possible that installing solar panels can lead to mold on the roof. The panels themselves are not the issue. Problems caused by improper installation—such as roof leaks and mounts that aren’t sealed properly—can cause mold. Another potential cause of mold is debris accumulation under panels, which can trap moisture. If you live somewhere with extreme snow, rain, or hail, your home could be more prone to mold.

While you can install solar panels by yourself, it can be a complicated process full of lots of manual labor, risky roof work, and knowledge of electrical wiring. Most solar panel installation projects should be reserved for a trained professional—especially if you plan on connecting your panels to the electrical grid rather than for off-grid use, which doesn’t require utility services.

You shouldn’t hook up a solar panel directly to a battery. That can damage the solar battery and your appliances over time. Instead, install a charge controller between your solar panel and solar battery. Charge controllers regulate voltage, prevent overcharging, and minimize the amount of electrical current to protect your battery from voltage spikes.
