"Mr. Daniels did not install the thermostat I bought but instead substituted a cheaper and poorer quality thermostat without asking me if he could make a substitution. The one he installed looked so much like the one I had purchased that I did not notice the difference until after he had left, taking the thermostat I bought with him. The one I had bought cost me $44.98 at Home Depot. The one he installed sells for $26.98 at Lowes. I paid him in cash so there was no way to stop payment. I would never call him again. I noticed that he nowhere gives his street address on his Facebook page. Small wonder."

Central Vacuum Systems questions, answered by experts

The best way to clean central vacuum pipes is to use a maintenance sheet to dislodge clogs and wipe the inside of the pipes clean. Alternatively, a professional can clean your central vacuum pipes for you.

Most home warranties cover either home appliances or home systems, and some cover both. Appliance packages will usually include protection for all kitchen appliances, like refrigerators, ovens, stoves, built-in microwaves, and dishwashers, with some covering washing machines and dryers. Systems-only plans normally cover the plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, as well as most of the components. Combination plans cover the major appliances in addition to home systems.

Central vacuums can offer huge time savings and an easier way to keep your home clean and even improve the air quality inside your home. While it is a high upfront cost compared to a freestanding vacuum cleaner, it can offer so much convenience and performance over many years, which may make it worth the investment if you can budget for it.

Yes, installing a central vacuum system typically adds value to your home. The ease of use, longevity, and superior suction power of a central vacuum system can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value if you decide to sell. Potential buyers may consider the central vacuum a perk to purchasing your home.

While caulking is handy for quite a bit of jobs, it’s still limited. Any crack or gap larger than 1/4 inch is best left for a more intensive repair job. When you hire house painters, they should run a thorough check to see what they need to repair before they start the job.

Large repairs that caulking typically won’t do well with include cracks or holes larger than a 1/4 inch, rotted wood, or metal surfaces, such as garage doors.
