"Jason was exceptional to work with. We requested a quote and he was at our house the next day. He walked us through everything that he’d do and gave us a rough estimate that night. The next day we had the final quote in hand and it was exactly what he said it would be. The quote was incredibly reasonable. He fit us into his schedule within 2 weeks and was very responsive to us. It took about half a day to finish all the electric in our shop and run power to it from the house. After the work was done he walked us through it all. He suggested different lights than the traditional shop lights and they are nice and bright and look really good. We are very pleased with the results. I’d most definitely hire him again and will be recommending him to anyone I know that’s looking for electrical work."

"Derek is by far the best electrician Iâ ve ever used!! Not only for quality, responsiveness, & professionalism but for the fact that they actually care. Iâ ve had DW Utah complete 4 jobs in the last two years (2 of them installing a charger for my Tesla) and every single job was exceptionally done. I would never go to anyone else for my electrical work. If youâ re done dealing with the big corporations, big corp pricing, and want someone who actually cares then you should let Derek and his team do the job. I promise you wonâ t be disappointed."

"Hired a professional to install 2 hand rails for my parents. One was installed on the front porch brick steps and one on the back porch brick steps. They arrived on time, installed both handrails quickly and safely. Handrails are sturdy, and now my parents lives are that much safer. Would recommend."

Small jobs welcome

"CJ, Brady, and Cam were amazing and professional. We needed our outside meter box replaced and moved to be within city regulations. CJ was very prompt with any inquiries I had and was always very up to date with information as it came, as he had to work with the city. CJ kept intouch during the "wait for the city" time-frame. Paying our bill was a very easy online process. I would absolutely recommend Hardwire to anyone looking for an honest electric company."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.

A home that is 2,500 square feet will likely need a 20kW to 25kW generator. Consult your local generator installer to confirm the generator size needed to power your home before purchasing a new one. Be sure to consider how much power your necessary devices need to run.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

Whole-house generators need to be installed on level ground several feet away from walls and other objects. Because they tap into the electrical system directly, they usually need to be close to your home electrical panel for a transfer switch installation. It also helps with installation if they are near to a gas line or propane tank installation.

Potential benefits of using a natural gas generator include reducing your carbon footprint, lower likelihood of carbon monoxide exposure, budget-friendly operating costs, and low-maintenance, continuous fuel supply. Some possible drawbacks, though, include higher initial installation costs, dependency on a natural gas supply, and installation complexity. Keep in mind that pros and cons will vary based on the type and brand of natural gas generator.
