Hello all and thank you for your interest in working with A-Train. I do all sorts of around the house handyman tasks. Some things that I have done in the past are changing/wiring electrical sockets, painting, trimming doors, installing cameras, cleaning gutters, window cleaning, furniture assembly, TV mounting, and so much more. Basically if it’s a household task I’ve probably done it. I also am a welder and have access to welding and cutting equipment. Most of my welding work has been industrial, but I can do small jobs for people who don’t have access to a welder. Some of these would be fixing metal handrails, fixing gates, hard facing lawn mower blades, tool repair, and other one person welding jobs. My goal is to serve the customer in a professional and quick time frame, for a reasonable cost. I will give free estimates, and have senior and military discounts. If there is something you need done around the house or other please send me a message and I will respond as quickly as possible. A door jamb is one component of a door frame. Door frames usually comprise three door jambs, including two side jambs, aka vertical planks, and one head jamb that sits along the top of the frame horizontally. 

Many doorways feature two door jambs. These are installed on both sides of a doorway to prevent the door from swinging too far. Door jambs usually stop the door at 180 degrees when closed.  A doorway floor transition sits between the door jambs on the floor, helping to create a safer and more aesthetically pleasing transition from one flooring type to the next. 

There are certainly perks to hiring a general contractor, but we recommend a closet professional. The reason is that their pricing may make more sense for your project. General contractors tend to search out bigger projects, and because of this, will attach a premium to smaller amounts of work. A closet pro may also have access to a wider range of materials than general contractors (and may be able to negotiate better discounts). 

For most doors, you can use a 1-inch chisel to create the mortise for the strike plate. In addition, you can use a 3/4-inch chisel for more refined cuts and to clean up the edges of your mortise. The smaller tool is handy when squaring off the edges around the hole for your latch.

Which way your garden gate opens mainly comes down to preference. While other types of gates, like one leading from the sidewalk to your property, should swing inward rather than outward to avoid opening into a public space, you don’t have to worry about such an issue in a backyard garden. However, a garden gate that swings inward may still be useful when carrying heavy loads into the space, like a wheelbarrow filled with mulch or heavy wood boards for building new garden beds.
