"Very detail oriented and very easy to work with. Their price was very fair, in view of the fact that they were not the only bid I got. Billie's knowledge of his trade was evident. I painted my way through college so I know good work when I see it. They did great work."

"The project turned out bigger than originally thought, but it looks incredible. The space is easier to use now, the new retaining wall is safer than before & neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. A big fan of the finished product! Will keep Jay Concrete & Construction in mind for my next project, on a different property."

"Reed Jesse did an excellent job of repairing the shower and painting the deck. He investigated how to repair the stucco and did an excellent job with the repair. I had asked several others to do the job, but no one knew how or was willing to do the difficult work to get it done. Reed warrantied his work for one year. He is busy, gets to you as soon as he can, and is willing to work late into the night to get the job done."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

You should refinish your deck to maintain its appearance, durability, and longevity. Refinishing your deck protects the wood from foot traffic and the elements. It also helps extend its life span by keeping rot, mildew, and termites at bay. By maintaining your deck, you can avoid the cost of replacing your deck sooner. A refinished deck also looks great and restores some of its original beauty.

It depends on the type of wood. The average cost to build a deck out of pressure-treated lumber is $15 to $25 per square foot, but more affordable varieties such as bamboo and cedar cost less at around $3 to $10 per square foot. However, when comparing the cost of vinyl decking versus wood decking, it’s important to also consider ongoing maintenance costs. For example, most woods require regular sealing to keep them protected against weather and rot.

A ground-level deck is a great idea for an outdoor space because it’s easy to access and doesn't require stairs or railings. You can install a ground-level deck near your home or farther away on your property. You can place a ground-level deck around a pool, fire pit, or near a view such as a lake, pond, or area of trees.

Both composite and PVC decking are excellent alternatives to wood. However, while composite is moderately priced and lasts around 30 years, PVC costs more and lasts longer. PVC is also more durable, though both materials are more durable than wood decking. Ultimately, the choice between composite and PVC decking will come down to your budget and preferences.

There are several methods for attaching stair stringers to a deck. The best way is to bolt the stringers to the deck joists using three carriage bolts in a triangular pattern. This method offers the sturdiest fit for stairs that won’t budge. Alternatively, attach the stringers to the deck rims using lag bolts or to the posts using adjustable slope hangers.
