"Master T gave us a good price for the services needed. They were able to start soon after we decided to go with them. They worked hard and got the job done quickly and professionally. We were happy with the results and would hire them again for other work."

"Tree Removal guys showed up with a boom truck and adequate manpower to remove a giant chinese elm and a dead cottonwood. They threw in limping up a ponderosa for me for free. They had to work around a power line and the trees were close to the house. They were careful and nothing was damaged. This was a complicated project and Johnny handled it like a true pro. The cost was well below other estimates that I received prior to selecting a contractor. If you need trees trimmed or removed, Johnny is your best bet in the Juab/Utah County area. He removed 11 massive cottonwoods for my sister in law too. They had to do that job in somewhat windy conditions and still got it done!"

"They did a great job cutting the tree and made it look really nice. I'm not sure if he was just really busy or what but he struggled with getting to the job when he said he would... time management. For someone who is prompt, it was frustrating. But everything eventually got done and it looks great!"

"They were quick to respond to my initial call and have communicated swiftly since. They do excellent work and make suggestions. They were able to do even more work than we first called them about. I anticipate a long-standing business relationship with Villages."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Some people prefer to leave or even carve a leftover stump, but we recommend removing it if possible. You can often dig out smaller trunks with a shovel once they have died and dried out. You can have stumps professionally removed, or request a service to grind them down to ground level so they can be replaced with other landscaping or objects.

In some states and municipalities, you will need a permit to remove a tree on your property. In many cases where permits are required, a tree must reach a maximum height before a permit is required to remove it. You can either ask your local building department or a tree removal professional if you’ll need a permit. If you do, you can expect to pay between $50 and $150 for the permit alone. Your tree removal company should pull the permit for you and include the permit fee in your total.

In the short term, you’ll have a lot of fallen trees to deal with. Tree removal services costs typically start at $200 per tree and increase based on species and size. Then, you’ll have to deal with the loss of trees: That means a loss of shade and a greater risk of rain runoff and erosion. Also, you’ll miss out on the health and aesthetic benefits of having trees on your property, which could even affect the resale value of your home.

That being said, cutting down a tree it’s not always a bad idea. Trees growing too close to rooftops can present fire hazards or debris problems. You may need to remove diseased or dying trees to prevent future issues.

There are a few general rules to follow that will help you prune your trees correctly. One of the most important rules is to prune during the correct season for the type of tree you have. Typically, pruning should be during late winter. For younger trees, you should not remove more than a ⅓ of the tree's crown when pruning. Also, remember to remove dead and diseased branches first, then proceed with pruning the rest of the tree.

Pruning trees during the summer can be a bad idea because the new growth will take place during the hottest months of the year, which can stress your tree out. Similarly, pruning during the early fall can be a bad idea, too, because you’d be stimulating new growth when most trees are aiming to go dormant.

Pruning recommendations will vary by the type of tree, but generally, waiting until winter to prune your trees is a good idea.
